View Full Version : How to quietly open a beer?

So you do you pro's do it? In many fishing locations with public access, it's not legal to enjoy a sip of the tasty brew. And if there's kids around, or easily provoked parents, one doesent want to portray the proverbial drunken fisherman - they might close the fishing access.

But we must admit that after landing a lunker, it's a great time for a smoke and a sip.

So you bring the plastic mug, and you discretely pull the can out of your pack, and then <CRACK>, the glorious sound of the beer bell is ringing across the lake. How do you guys keep the sound of the suds from echoing off every tree? Scaring every trout? And attracting the glares of every non-fisherperson?

Hey, it sounds just like a pop can opening so don't sweat it! My travel coffee mug works great!

Real beer comes in bottles. Taking off a cap doesn't make much noise.

Plus, I would never fish in a such a place. A bunch of people, and no beer allowed. Sounds like he11!

If you homebrew you can package it in anything you want. How about a stout in one of the old glass coke bottles? or if you keg it, you can just put it into a thermos and put the lid on tight. That's one of the beauties of homebrew. You can put it into anything that will keep the carbonation in, and nobody will know its beer until you try to get up and walk!

Nothing like a good beer and a cigar and good friends while putting in time on the water. I recomend a plastic coke bottle for dark brews, ginger ale for light beers, and Mt Dew for your green beers(which to me smell like skunk, so I try to avoid them, when possible).

Hey Fishguts,

That's the same as wiping before you poop, it just doesn't make any sense....

And I will second the earlier statement, reel beer comes in a bottle, just twist the top

Just to defend myself on the whole can/bottle thing:

I drink cans when I'm operating out of a backpack, since I'm usually sitting on rocks next to a river. I broke a bottle on the Sandy once and felt like a **** for messing up such an awesome place - even after I picked up all the glass.

Bottles when I'm operating near a cooler.

Keg when I can get the truck next to the water.
