The S. Santiam was still a bit high and really cold, but did give up some nice summer steelhead. Nothing on sat. Sunday was great. We hooked 5 and landed 3, between two of us. All summers and the biggest was 11lb. We also saw one really nice springer taken, 16lb. Drifting corkies and yarn scented with shrimp oil. It only gets better.

Hey, Artwo the wily creek to waterloo. Most of the action was from wily creek to the church hole. With the water dropping it should only get better.

That's a lot of water to cover. How were you fishing? Grant

William-I have never made a drift down the South Santiam, hope to go this weekend, is there anything a first timer needs to know about running that part of the river, any info on bad spots to watch out for would help. Thanks phil

That is a very long drift only to have "action" in the first 1/4 mile. How long is that drift? 10+ miles????????

Phillip:

The Foster to Pleasant Valley Bridge drift is relatively easy. Just be ready for plenty of company. I drifted on Sunday afternoon. I put in at 11am and there were easily 20 boats that passed me during the afternoon. I would guess that there were around 40 boats on the drift during the day. Thats alot of pressure for a very short section of river.

cnd-thank you for the info, how did you do, I fished sat on the Siletz River with two people form griley, co, they hooked two fish, one winter and one summer steelhead, river was 4.3, great conditions, just not many fish around. The river is now below 4 foot, so off to a new place. If all that pressure, is the fishing any good? sounds like the pressure we had on the Siletz this winter. thanks phil

There used to be,or maybe still is, a private landing about half-way between the Pleasant Valley ramp, and Waterloo Park. The owner was known to me as "Jack". Does anyone have any curent information on that landing???

It seems to me the last time I drifted from Sweet Home to Jack's (about three years ago) in fairly low water, there was a fairly nasty drop, which required a pretty precise line to get through. It seemed like this was about 2/3 of the way down the drift. Was this just me or is this spot always a *itch at low water? Also, what generally are good flow rates on the South to watch for? It seems this time of year the Corp starts messing with the flows and you never know what you're gonna get. Thanks.
