Hey everybody, I finally had a whoop it up fishing trip this weekend but I had to go out of state to do it.Our freind Ed invited two of us down to visit in Redding Ca. We fished spotted bass, smallmouth, rainbow's and landlocked chinook, and what a blast. We caught around a hundred bass a few salmon and fifty or so rainbows.Didn't get any monsters but they were nice fatties from fourteen to nineteen inches. It was as good of bass fishing as I have ever experienced.A beautiful lake with lots of water and great weather,(and cooold beer),throw in some world class fishing and you can't ask for much more. I recommend it highly.

CP,
That is a great trip. We used to do a weeklong houseboat vacation down there once a year. Absolute blast. I have caught some huge largemouth out of there, nice channel cats also.

Shasta is an awesome place in the spring. First time in several years I haven't made the trip.

hey now you all are in my home waters. I grew up in what is now called shasta lake city. back then is was called central valley. Shasta lake is still one of my most favorite places to fish anywhere in the country. It has a huge variety of different fish and most of them get large. The smallmouth and spotted bass fishing is great. Try dragging a 5/8 ounce silver and red krokodile spoon with nothing else on it and work along the shoreline as tight as possible and hang on the german browns average around 5 lbs and go up to 20 or so. It even has sturgeon in it if you know where to target them. I do stay away from there in the summer months its just to crowded and hot. but the spring time is great. My parents still live there.

Biteme.. I am heading down for the week long maylay of fishing, skiing and houseboating the end of June. I know the spring Brown fishing is a little more definable, what about deep trolling as summer comes on? We have done great on the bass and rainbows down there in our previous 4 trips, but have yet to really target the browns. Any thoughts on what to do?

One excellent way to catch browns that are suspended is drift fishing or mooching a minnow. I would try this in the top 40 foot or so I dont think the browns go much deeper than that. It is still very productive to troll with a flat line and a krokodile, kripplelure, kastmaster, bronze and black rapala or any other theadfin shad imitating lure. I usually use 10lb test and let out 75 - 100 yds of line troll fast and work across the points at depths as shallow as 6 feet, usually you will get coming up onto a point or leaving the other side of the point. If you find a cove where there are schools of threadfin boiling get out your live minnows set your sliding bobber stops between six and 12 feet fish in the middle of the shad. when you get into a school of shad anything can bite. bass, big trout, crappie, even channel cats will take the minnows. try trolling first shallow, then when the sun gets up try mooching with live minnows, then find a cove or a rocky or red mud point and break out the bobbers.
