I talked with Bonneville and they are supposed to lower flow and spills by a huge margain by May. If this happens and  and fish #s get high, no one will be going to work. Pray Hard!!!

Hey, let a few through. The springer season opened in Idaho this weekend, and so far we've only had around 200 fish over Lower Granite. :hoboy: However, I see things are picking up, and I do have an Oregon License...so if I can get the time off from work I'll be fishing with you all next Monday through Wednesday.

That's 7,753 that swam by us. We fished Bonneville hard on Sunday and saw about 5-6 fish caught. They were all caught by the bankies. Not one fish was caught by a boat that we saw.

Water was running hard with a lot of color! :depressed:

Mojo, things are looking good for you. Most folks are not catching during this high water. Enjoy!

When things start happening here, I'll let you know. Maybe F-4.5 at Orofino  ? I always like good company on the river. I know the Clearwater pretty well, and don't mind sharing. It might cost you some pointers about fishing Buoy 10 in August though.

The jack counts are still real low a sign that next year is not looking good. Jack counts need to be 10% of the run. If you look back in 2000 jack counts were real high, and the following year was real good, last year a little lower, this year it is not even 1%. Gettem now next year is looking bad.

Re: jack counts. Yes fish_on, I think you're right. But, when I look at the stats of last year's run, it appears that the jacks lag behind the adults somewhat. The jack count in 2001 ended up very high, but early in the run it was a low fraction of the total, then it caught up.

Hopefully that's what is happening again.

I've always understood that Spring Chinook jack counts were nowhere near the reliable indicator that fall chinook jack counts are. If you look back into the historics from Bonneville Dam, I believe this more or less bears out.

If you are looking at Idaho Hatchery fish to provide a decent run next year, you got problems. We had a bad water year, and very poor juvenile numbers outgoing. I see a springer drought on the horizon for a year or two.

Pray for good water next year to get our record numbers of babies out.
