I am heading up to Merwin Lake on Wed. and have never fished it before. If anyone has any good fishing tips for up there I would love to hear them. I am not sure if I am going to be in a boat or on bank but info on both would be great.
Thanks

I know Merwin pretty well. It has trout, kokanie, tiger muskie, and I've heard rumors of land locked sturgeon....believeable given the depths of the lake.
The most productive fishing you'll see there will be kokanie fishing from a boat. Troll a "wedding ring" (spinner available at any store in the area) behind cowbell flashers. Tip the hook with a piece of canned corn. Slow troll at 25-35 ft. The area off of Selieye Bay is usually the most productive.
For trout, I'd suggest motoring up to the mouth of the creek; be careful if in a prop boat, it get's shallow in there, but I don't know if it's open right now.
Look for tiger muskies along the shore where there is a park and docs... up close to the mouth of the lake, but below the bridge. Gear up...they're huge.
There are also loads of squafish in the lake if you need crab bait....look for any waterfall into the lake and cast some meat into the flow.
Good luck!

Here's a clue for you.I was told by a guy that has been doing very well at Merwin the last few days.He said do soak your white corn in tuna fish oil,he told me he drains the water off the corn the night before and pours in the tuna oil and lets it soak over night.I saw pictures of his fish so it must work.Merewin has some really nice kokes in it.I think this would be worth trying. Good luck. graemlins/idea.gif
He must be useing the tuna packed in oil

You might check on the conditions. They said on the news that a canal dam broke loose sending a 20 ft wall of water down in that area. I believe that it was up river but it did take out a section of hwy. 503. I am not that familiar with the fishing areas but I would check.
