Help! I just bought a new anchor and anchor system at Bob's Sporting goods the other day. I picked up one of the rocker anchors that I see most people using on the Columbia. The anchor I bought did not have a chain attached, but I noticed that some of them did. The anchor had a chain attached to the bottom portion of the shank and it ran to the top of the shank and was attached at the top with a piece of string.
How should I rig my anchor? Should I just attach the anchor rope to the shank at the top? Should I attach a chain from the bottom like I described above, and if I do, where and how should I attach the anchor rope?? Help!

Use a long (6 ft minimum) heavy chain and use 1 or 2 electrical slip-ties to hold the chain to the "eye". These will break if the anchor is hung up and you will pull the anchor right up. Good luck!

Do it like the other ones you saw. You want to be able to break the chain loose from the top of the anchor and pull the anchor up from the hooked end if you snag up.

Depending on the size of the anchor you purchased use a plastic tie that has about 75 lbs of breaking strength. The anchor is designed to be used with the chain secured at the top of the anchor and then the tie will break if the anchor becomes stuck and you will pull from the bottom of the anchor to break loose. Use only one tie and carry spares with you in your boat. I have one of these and they work excellent. Be sure to add the chain. Hope this helps you out.

Get an 8' chunk of that rubber coated chain. It works pretty good at keeping the side of your boat from getting all scratched up by whimpy achor puller :hoboy: . Ooops. You already bought chain.
