Fishing Report for Monday & Tuesday

Fished for 2 days on the Columbia below Rainier Oregon. For you folks that were down there I was in the VIP Bass/Ski boat with a friend. On Tuesday we hooked and released 2 wild springers. On Wednesday we set the hook on 5 fish and all got off. I’ve never lost so many fish in one day.
This is the first time I’ve used Power Pro, and I think the fish got off because there is NO stretch in the line.
Saw one of our famous guides down there eating hot dogs. Seems he does not like some people close to his spot, but with others its OK. I guess that is what I get for being nice and asking if it would be OK to use that spot.
Herring wrapped quick fish in chartreuse and green were the ticket. Most people were using the same thing. Those that weren’t didn’t do as well.

I dont know about your theory on the "no stretch lines" and loosing fish on the hook set. I use Whiplash and was 5 for 5 the other day ... just let that fish burry that kwik fish - hands off till its pulsed at least 3 times and is burried... then pick up and give it a little tug...

tommo, I was fishing below Rainier on Tuesday with a "famous guide" who just happened to be eating hot dogs. I don't remember anybody discouraging others were to fish. Don't touch the rod until you can't stand it anymore, the fish should be on the drag.
I see some "famous guides" have time to play guitar for famous rock bands now....that was awesome!

Now, now Tommo. Hey, you could have been there since you camped in the lot. No excuses bud. Be there early or forget it. That is not the only spot that produces. Seems, I told ya about the areas above the bridge being good too. It is 1st come 1st serve my friend.

That said, the guide is there to make money. He was there ahead of ya. Asking folks to move after they have been set up is not good river policy. those of us that got there early and set up had the right of way. sorry if ya felt squeezed but you could have moved outside a little.

Other than that you should not have a complaint. You hooked fish even though you could not keep them on. Be happy. Next time be early.

Oh, thanks for announcing where we were. :hoboy: graemlins/berry.gif Hey everybody come on down to the zipper lip area. We can accomodate at least 30 more boats there  graemlins/icon_argue.gif

All right!! thanx for the info on that "zipperlip" spot!! That narrows it down to just about 40 miles from Rainier to the ocean!!

Gee Scott and Catch and Eat I didn't happen to see you hook any fish! Whats up with that.

I was not saying anything about you not moving over five feet. But since you mentioned it you could have done it. Seems there was room before the tide changed. I was trying to be considerate by asking.

And, you were the only ones that complained. Hum?

Is the Columbia a zipperlip river for you?

Oh Tommo, lighten up dude. You know we hooked our own fish. I even handed mine off to my dad on the 2nd one. Scott was the stud. Two biggies 17 & 19#'s.

We did not complain Tommo. We were just concerned that we paid to be guided that day and to get crowded out would have sucked.

Lesson learned here for everyone. Get there early or have an alternate plan.

TheRogue, you must be the only one then that does not know. It's the ocean right around bouy 2 in 10 ft swells. graemlins/eek13.gif  Zipperlip....sure.............. :hoboy:

Hey tommo,
LET ME SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT!
You asked me to re-anchor.
I was the first one on the water.
I got up at 3:00 am
You were still drewling on your pillow as I put my boat in the water.
If you have a problem where I anchor, then wake up earlier - or live with the results.
To ask me to re-anchor and crowd in on a guide, is like asking me to take some of his paycheck which he spends on his wife and family.

The reason you couldn't see them catch any fish, was because you were squeezed in there so tight that all you could see was my front rope guide.
That's right, you dropped your anchor with in 3 feet of mine.
And as for you being considerate, yeah right.

That's right, I am a little ******. I'm made out as the "bad guy" because I wouldn't re-anchor.That's right, I try not to screw the other boaters.

Ya want my thoughts on the matter, probably not. Well, here they are anyway. If you don't like the way we fish down here (by respecting the others on the water), then stay home!
It's as simple as that.
On the other hand, if you want to get there on time and drop into the line correctly, I'd even offer you food off of my grill.

So I guess what I'm saying is...oh never mind!!!

Sorry Uncle Bob,

I thought it was Catch and Eat and Scott that didn't catch any fish, but I was wrong. The two in your boat didn't catch fish. Must have given you an attitude dude!

You finally moved over the whole five feet and I appreciated that.

And, when I asked you to move over there was room for another boat between you and the precious guide. Then another boat did move into that area between you and the guide. And, you still had room to move over. Thanks again.

Lighten up - Enjoy Life!

Tommo, you be stiring up the wrong hornets nest here mister. Point is, if you sleep at the dock, don't over sleep. Don't ask people to move their boat. And don't fry the guide.

The guide is working, you are not. Show a little respect. Don't crowd in like that cause it's not cool.

Hey, as far as the catching of fish goes. If you did not "cracker" so many of the fish you had on you could have been done in an hour. graemlins/stupid.gif Let the stinken fish take it, take it, take it, before you C.o.C.K. the hammer. How embarrasing.

Y'all fishing bass or what? :hoboy: he he he....

Hey Tommo,

When I show up and want to anchor right next to you with a space of 10' or less will you show me some consideration if I ask you to pull and move closer to the next boater? Will you do that without irritation?

single minded morons fighting over 1 tiny spot on one of the Longest rivers in the United States; Figures! As for getting up early, get over it man, your either stupid or just drunk, there are 8 billion people on this planet, so all the "secret" spots are gone, either learn how to catch fish or live off your "popular spot" but otherwise man dont whine and ***** about people moving in on your "spot."
As for the guides, there are 2 types, the loosers that LIVE of secret spots and they get ****** when people are there, then there are those who actually know what fish think and where to catch them, so they get them anywhere. Whatever the case i respect there right to work and earn a buck but i wont move an inch to **** for a guide. If you need to squeeze next to me your obvioulsy just as ignorant as i am... graemlins/icon_argue.gif

Yes I would have moved.

My buddy and I pulled up before the tide changed and there was room for all. When the tide did change some boats floated closer to others because of the tide change.

There was 25' between the guide and the person that would not move. I asked nicely if they would move over 5' still leaving lots of room for all. They didn't and we made do.

Half hour later another boat pulled in between the guide and the boat that would not move. The boat that would not move served hot dogs to everyone on the guide boat at about noon, then finally moved over the five feet.

I was trying to be accommodating for all concerned and had no problem with others. I didn't even get into a ******* match it wasn't worth screwing up a perfectly glorious day on the river.

I still had a banner day.

They were not hot dogs, the were Johnsonville Brauts. And yes, we in the guide boat enjoyed them. yum yum yum.

25 ft..... not! But it was a glorious day.

OldRedSled, there are no fish in the columbia. There are no fish in the Clackamas. and there are no fish in your boat......

Get up early and get your spot. Don't anchor on top of another boat and expect them to move. Hey, if ya want to move then fine. Otherwise... move on ya own self. graemlins/idea.gif

No one owns the river or a "spot", we all have our favorite places to fish that produce. If it produces then we sure as heck go there over and over again.

BTW, there was plenty of room outside the guide boat that arrived well before you.

Bernie, Bernie, oh Bernie, If only you had offered just one of those hot dogs to others the whole day would have ended up real peachie. Instead you were inconsiderate and ate them all your self. Now if I had been there there would have been no fish to worry about. graemlins/1zhelp.gif
As for your secret spots, forget it dude, get out of bed or take what is left. That's the way it is and you know it. Uncle Bob is a non=fisherman and runs a concession stand under the Burnside Bridge for the homeless. Thanks for the invite you rotton dogs. What's a party without me?

Dude I wasn't there.
I just think its comedy hearing all the hogliners whine and moan to each other about the Hogline. Look you know there is going to be a hogline in your little spot and you probably anchored up next to someone else, but if 10min later someone anchors up next to you then its time to be self righteous and outraged. Try having some consistency with action and opinion. I understand that you feel justified feeling outrage about someone else’s actions despite the fact that you did that very same action just 10min earlier. You probably don’t want to dwell on the past, you actions, and instead hold others to a higher etiquette standard than you hold yourself, and then you can feel justifiable outrage when they simply mimic your actions. Maybe as an added bonus you can legitimate all other unacceptable actions that you do to other people throughout the day because you were forced by the replicated action that the individual did to you. My god man you can live an Error free life by simply blaming others for your actions and living in denial about yourself!!! This world needs more people like you, because like I said its comedy.

Scratch and Sniff,

Saw your new "guru daddy" David Johnson below the dam Saturday. Told him to keep his bananas. Don't know how he did, but he saw us off the anchor four times with two 15's a 20 and a 28, all too many fins. My buddy Keith was hot and "even I" got one.

Did not get a chance to let him know I WAS going to book a trip for him, UNTIL I found out he actually fished you in his  boat! :hoboy: :hoboy:

As far as this post, tell you what, WHOEVER you are, if I get up early enough to anchor where I want and you drop right on top of me, and pull out the bumpers or right below me, you will think everyone else is as gentle as Mickey Mouse in comparison. The ignorant and selfish are already out there, we saw them this weekend.

By the way, ESAD on the other post.
