Fished from first light , four guys trolling herring ...15-20 minutes into it my rod went off, briefly , tug , splash , and gone ...then put a 12 lb in the boat ..we had 7 takedowns , boated 3, released one and got sun burned ...all in all a great day on the Channel. All but one was a very light strike , had to feed them , feed them somemore and then cross there eyes !!!

Are you kidding me? Why the heck was I not out there? Where on the channel were ya, if you don't mind me askin? You were pulling herring? Behind a Fish Flash....plug cut? How long a leader behind your spreader or Fish Flash?? Better yet why don't I just jump in your boat tomorrow?

Actually, that's the most promising report I've read about in the last three days! Congrats!

Any info you can give would be much appreciated. I have only three weeks left, and woud really like to catch a Springer before I go.

Thanks.................Bullhead

Hey , Bullhead . We were low on the Channel , near the mouth . Plug-cut silver herring , no fish flash , 30" dropper , with 4-5oz lead., a crank or so off the bottom depending on the depth . We were the"lucky-boat" for a change !!! but i did see a net or two throughout the day . I was "due' as I was 0-4 trips before yesterday ...put your time in Bullhead and i hope your rod dips soon ...All the best , Swampy.

Ok, so here is my question. What speed do people troll for springers??? I have a 30 HP on my boat that I use to troll for trout, but I want to know if it is too fast....

Thanks

R n' L ..depends on the flow and the tides ...I am NO EXPERT but we try to troll just fast enough to make way ...and to keep your line at about a 45 degree angle off the back of the boat.

Swampy -- what a great day!!!! You had six more takedowns than we've had total in five outings.

You mentioned 4-5 oz of lead, that seems like a lot. We're you trolling fast against the incoming and outgoing tides?

Just wondering and hoping to emulate your successful technique.

Hey garyk. The guys in back of the boat use three oz while the guys in front use 4-5. keeps you out of each others lines ...my partner, Springer Don , likes to feel the bottom and I just do as I am told as he's , well, Springer Don !!

My father was out in the channel today in my boat while I was at work. Same general area as Swampy. Three guys & three fish in the boat. 17, 18, and 20. Spinners 3' to 5' off the bottom in 15' to 19' of water. Wish I had been there!

Rip'N'Lips,
I have a 22' big block sled and I troll as slow as I can get my 9.9 Honda to run comfortably. With a #5 or #6 spinner and 3oz of lead, the line is less than 45*.
