I'm the new guy in town. Last tuesday I landed and released a 27lb native springer. I was anchored in the hogline at the mouth of the clackamas.
Then last friday I drifted the siletz from twin bridges down to town. My dad just got a place right on the siletz. This was my first drift on the siletz. Beautiful river. Landed about a dozen searun cutthroat, but no steelhead. Had three takedowns running plugs, though no steelhead. Too low and clear water conditions I guess. Big cutthroat on divers and bait is always fun. Man they really smack a sand shrimp.
Any tips you can give on fishing the siletz?

I went to Moonshine park about a month ago, Nailed a 10 1/2 pound Hatchery steelie on a 4" pink worm and spin & Glo I was drifting. I also was told that a pink worm and Corkie or Spin glo behind a Hot n Tot or small diver Works very well from a boat. Was also told to hang on to your rod when using this method, the strikes are extremely aggressive.

Fishinbuddy:

I will give you one piece of advice for the Siletz. DO NOT RUN DIVER AND BAIT WHEN NATIVES ARE IN THE RIVER!!!! Late march and early april are the peak for the native run and you run a very good chance of killing these fish with a deep hook via diver and bait. Stick with plugs.

As far as fishing goes. The water is pretty low right now. You may be able to pick up a few fish in the Moonshine stretch right now, but thats probably about it. If we ever get another good rain, the river should get a few more winter stragglers and the first summers will start to show up.

Good advice chuck'n'duck, though many hatchery fish are still being caught. We pull plugs 80% of the time, but when thats not working you have to try other tactics.
