At about 7am this morning, downstream from Willamette Park at the head of Ross Island, This guy hooks and nets at decent springer. I say way to go to them and they throw it in their fish box. 2 minutes later, splash- he throws it back in the river- belly up. I hope I never witness that again. Disgraceful!!

WE FISHED THE UPPER WILLAMETTE FRIDAY AND SAW A SMALL BOAT HOOK AND NET A NATIVE SPRINGER. THEY THEN BOATED TO SHORE AND TOOK PICTURES OF IT.BY THE TIME IT WAS RELEASED IT WAS TO LATE FOR THIS FISH.I DO NOT NET OR BOAT NATIVE FISH, THEY ARE RELEASED IN THE WATER.I SURE HOPE THE PEOPLE YOU AND I HAVE WITNESSED GET CAUGHT SOON.

come on now, lets face it some folks just do not know any better. I rember when, and yes I was embarased, but a gentlemen told me a couple of things I did not know, about 25 years ago, I never forgot.Do it in a nice way, they will appreciate it and so will the fish, and all of us fisher persons. Just be nice about it!

Supplying Boat Numbers to State Police might help. What do you think? Killing them and throwing them back is the same as killing them and taking them home. Either way they are dead.

I think that this kind of unsportsmanlike behavior will lead to the end of our Willamette spring salmon fishery.

The whole thing is built on the premise of successful release of unclipped fish. Yes turn the A-hole in. Yell at him too, he needs it. What a doughball!

How long does it take to see if a fin is clipped???????

Jerry is right,

Remember, it's not so much what you say but how you say it. If you approach someone and in a open non confrontational manner and suggest an improvement in his fish handling skills your chances of having an impact are significantly increased. Most people want to do it right, unfortunately there always are those few AS$ HOES that just don't care.

Removing a wild fish from the water should be grounds for a citation. It is in Alaska. I released a 30 + pound springer the other day with no problems by cutting the hook. sure it would have been nice to hold it up and get a picture, but.....
There are guide(s) on the Columbia who should know better, netting and boating, then photographing wild fish before returning them to the water. Maybe they know how to handle the fish carefully but think of the example it sets for the ones who don't. "If a guide can do that, so can I".
Agree, don't yell or berate people in public. It only causes hard feelings and very seldom they take the advice. Educate, educate, educate. graemlins/stupid.gif graemlins/stupid.gif :hoboy:
