View Full Version : Sardines
I don't think I've seen this discussed before. What makes a good sardine for wrapping and where can you find them? I've bought bait sardines, the 8 to 10 inch models that look like little mackeral, for bait. I've bought them as whole frozen fish and as filets. The filets seem oilier and hold up better, but they cost too much for what I get. Where can I find big, oily sardines that I can process myself? How would you toughen them up so they don't fall apart while they're fishing? Cumon, spill the secrets!

I get them from Uwajimaya, an asian grocery chain up here. I bought 6 yesterday for the massive sum of $3.12. Those would have cost me 12 bucks at Fisherman's Marine. And they're food grade. Five minutes with the vacuum sealer, and I'm ready for a week.
I have never done anything other than slice and wrap. I'm going to experiment a little with brining some this week.

If you can't find any sardines, I have them.
I sell them by the pound. 3.49 per pound.
I can mail them to you too. UPS is my carrier.

Hey wetaline, the address is 10500 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy. I don't know how familiar you are with Beaverton but it is just west of the intersection of Western Ave. and Beav. Hills. Hwy.
