My girlfirend likes to spoon.I personally hate spooning.. its just too suffocating. Lately I prefer the sleeping on the couch method..
I generally fish green and blue steelies as well as silver crocidles.. I really like spinners better though.. Silver and Blue Bluefoxes size 2 and three and whatever other spinners catch my eye.

The first thing I would suggest is calling it "throwing hardware" or something with a little less intimate connotation if you get my meaning
First off there are only three brands of spoon I will fish with for steelhead: Pen Tac, Mor Tac and Litle Cleo's...in that order. Mor-Tac is making enough variation that they currently have all of my business (unless I can find that Pen-Tac guy I have heard stuff about)...
If your home river has low and clear fishing conditions in the summer time I suggest using brass and tarnished brass spoons depending on water temperature. In super low clear and warm conditions the spoons in black oxide are a good choice, a little strip or two of tape on the concave side of the spoon for color...
My favorite thing about fishing hardware is its common sense approach...Warmer and clearer = smaller and less flashy...Colder and cloudier = bigger and flashier...once you start to dial in this relationship you will start hooking fish if they are there.
Siwash hooks at all times, facing up, you will lose fewer fish once hooked and alot fewer spoons

Here is a link to decent book on the subject, by the time I had read it I was past anything I could learn from the book, but it would be a terrific place to start for a beginner.
Any specific questions??

I don't use the spoons you mentioned because they don't get deep enough for the water I fish, xcpt the cleo's...

I've never caught a steelhead with a spoon, but then I don't use them very often. Although, I love using homemade Gold spinners (same size as a bluefox #3) but heavier. This time of year and even as the water clears up, I caught about half my fish on that spinner last year. Give it a shot

Interestingly enough--he recommends having the hooks facing the other way, that is to say the concave side of the spoon for a better bite (even provides a diagram)food for thought.............

That's what I meant by 'facing up'....couldn't draw a diagram, does he call it facing down?? Oh well, I hope you check that book out jr...
...and remember its "throwing hardware"

little cleo's and acme thunderbolt's. i like to use the thunderbolt the 1/4 oz size in gold with a little green glitter tape on the back plus i change the hook to a single siwash. In low clear water this is my favorite spoon
