Anybody familiar with the area, i will be down there for a week and am looking for a good place to go to catch some fish, ocean or fresh water, are there any good steelhead streams within a short drive??? Thanks for the info.

There are no fish in Coos Bay, these are not the droids you're looking for. When are you heading down there? If it's soon the South fork of the Coquille should still have some fish in it. There isn't much public access in the lower river. But if you can believe it, landowners will actually let you on their property to fish if you ask first. It's really quite amazing, don't know why it doesn't work up here.

Tenmile lake should start kicking out pre spawn bass at anytime, you can rent boats from one of the marinas and the lake is your oyster. North lake used to fish before south lake. But it's been over a decade since I've really fished it. If you get a map there are plenty of lakes in the dunes that you can walk to that have bass, perch and sunfish in them. Beale being a good one with decent access.

If you want to fish the bay for perch, the Roseburg Lumber dock on the North Spit can really produce if a ship isn't there. If you have crab rings with over 120' of line, crabbing can be quite good there as well. Also, I don't have a tide book, but digging for gaper clams in Empire can be good as well on a moderate low tide.

Also fishing from the rocks around Sunset Bay and Shore Acres can produce for greenling and sea bass.

A boat would open up many more possibilites, but that should be enough to get you started.

I know that this is ANOTHER late report (I told you I am slow)but on 2-25-02 I caught 3 on the South Fork of the Coquille. The largest in the deep hole at the land slide where the road to Powers is gravel. Kept a 31" hatchery and released one larger and one smaller wild fish. Fished downstream of "Hays Farm".
