I am not 100% about this..but as I understand it there is a pump unit that is avalable on new outboards (Merc, Yam etc)...does anyone know if one can buy the pump unit to replace the standard pumps on older 200hp...I plan on calling Stevens Marine today...If anyone has one is it worth the investment for the rated performance....also how does it effect the motor for perforance, does it lug down the motor on out of pocket jumps...

Outboard Jets Inc. of San Leandro CA. makes a outboard pump. I don't know the hp loss but I lost about 10mph top end on my 1979 35hp Johnson when I put the pump on it.

It can replace the old pump. You'll actually jump out faster - larger jet of water pushing you out. You'll pick up a couple mph too. which means you can run at lower rpm's at the same speed/plane you use to - which results in less gas consumption. I've had both on the same boat.

Good improvement. Yet not worth the money! Buy a new motor W the pump already on it>

I recently purchased a new 20' Super Vee w/ Merc 150 "AT" Series Pump. I also got the lower end prop unit so I can switch over 1/2 of the year for fishing big water. I had a standard pump on my last boat, also a 150. The exact same powerhead. This larger pump gets this larger boat out of the water quicker, and I notice that I can run with less RRRRR's, saving wear and tear on the motor overall. Spendy-yes. Worth it?? Over the life of the boat/motor, I have to believe yes. If you go stainless, hold on too your shorts. That larger SS impeller from Woodridge, will really bite. Shop for that. I was dumb, and used a local shop, paid $650 up front, only to find out that I could have gotten it much cheaper from Steven's. Should have gone there first anyway. Live and learn. Hope this helps ya. JP
