lots of guys fish the channel.....so i have a ?...assuming these are all willamette fish....how many fish take the channel as compared to rounding KP and swimming the willamette?

I have no clue about the #'s but if I'm not mistaken the conventional wisdom is that any year a percentage of fish use the channel. However during low water years the % is smaller than a normal water year like this year. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

good question, do meny of the columbia river fish go up the channel and them turn around, or turn left at the top of the iland and head back out to kelly point and the columbia.

That is a great question! From what I have learned the smolts are in the Willamette for quite some time (contrary to previous thoughts) and coming back in, when the water smells like the Willamette (there is no mistake about that), the channel is the Willamette to them. I would like to know the numbers as well but given the budget status it will be speculation forever. The water flow has a great deal to due with it. The channel can be more like a lake at times.
