Fly fisherman, which hooks do you like the best? What would give me the best buy for the buck. There are so many makers now. Also which is your favorite mail order or place to get good quality supplies at a good rate. Thank you for your infinite wisdom.

first of all , all fly fishing equipment inckuding hooks have prices that are set by the manufacturer, you will not generally find stuff being sold cheaper in one store than another, unless they are going out of business or the product is being discontinued.
I use different hooks depending on how I am fishing. I used to fish alec Jackson spey hood made by Diichi but they are too expensive for general use. I use them now only for tying more elegant patterns to fish durning the summer. for my winter fishing I use Mustad 36890's becuase they are cheap 10 bucks for 100 these hooks however must be hand sharpened and they do not debarb well.
Tiemco's 7999 and 7989 are both excelent hooks about 3 times the cost of the mustads
diariki 899 is a good hook also and less expencive that the tiemco.
some of the partidge hooks are ok but stay ayay from the 'N" hook as it is extremely dull ans has a short point stick with the "m" hook and the bartleet.
hope this helps

I usually use the Mustad for steelhead and slamon. I prefer the black color in these hooks. They don't break off and stay sharper longer. The cost is OK but important is the Mustad are always available everywhere. For trout I go with VMC or Eagle Claw usually in a bronze wire. I have broken some occaisionly not on fish but handling them in and out of the fly vise.

You may consider going with tube flies. You'll beach a larger percentage of the fish you hook. I see you're in Beaverton. Go to RiverCity Fly shop and they'll set you up. Get the 1 1/2" tubes and #4 Tiemco 105 hook. Good Luck!

I use Tiemco 7999 for wet and dry. The 7989 are too light and will bend out. The Mustads are lower quality, and for the small number of hooks that I lose a year, it is worth it to spend the extra few bucks (and to double check those knots!). As for mail order, they all have the same price on these babies, but mail order will usually set you back some postage, so support your local flyshop - or at least support an Orygun shop that you like.
