I went to Detroit Lake on Wednesday. I'm on vacation now, so I've been too busy to post my report, unlike when I'm working and have plenty of free time. I was trolling around the island. I marked plenty of fish at various depths, they were all over the water column. The water was very cold. I couldn't find a thermocline on the sonar, so it must be cold all the way through. Needless to say, the fish weren't biting very well. I had one takedown without a hookup, and one kokanee landed for five hours of trolling. Both were on homemade trolling spoons behind a silver dodger. The kokanee was about ten inches long. It was somewhat fat, so there must be good feed for them this year. Look for them to be nice sized later this summer. Right now, though, the fishing will probably be very slow until the water warms up.

Happybrew, thanks for the report on Detroit, I use to like the lake but haven't found it worth going out there anymore. Maybe with the low water last year and the filling this year, the food sources will be good and some bigger fish will be there. Got two thoughts 1). trout can take down, a rod? 2) somewhat fat, Now that is one I can relate to. graemlins/1zhelp.gif I think I will start work ing on the second one this spring and see if I can work myself into that condition.

Keep us posted if you go back.
