I'll be the idiot in the grey clackacraft between Oxbow and Dabney. I'll do my best to quickly back my trailer in and my best to not get in anyones way going down the river. However if I screw you up I am truly sorry. I'm new to driftboating and doing my best.
Just thought I'd give advanced warning  )

rob allen, good luck on your float. I have yet to take my first in my boat. When you get a chance let us me know how you did.

Mr. Allen, My advice would be to put in...row to the other side, tie up your boat and either drift fish or bobber jig/shrimp. You want to be just passed half way from where you put in and the tailout below...Wouldn't it be nice to go over there and catch one...maybe two and be smiling all the way down as you practice your rowing??? I have seen lots of fish caught over there and don't mind giving up this info cuz i can't get there
Hope you have a safe and productive trip

Thanks for the advise but we will be flyfishing. The purpose of my post was to pre-apologize for keeping people waiting at the boat ramp and for getting in the way of other boats. : o )

fish the tailout anyway. Lot of good fishing at tailouts when flyfishing too.

Should I just hold this guy up at the gate for the ritual(first drift of the Sandy) holdup party.Tell him all first timers must have boats checked out and inspectors are on their way."they will be right here".

Have a good float, Rob. You will probably launch before I get there but I will be hitting it with flies tomorrow morning to. As a bankie though.

Rob -- It was nice meeting you this morning. Nice boat. I hope you got into some today!
What a beautiful morning. I couldn't believe I had the whole boat launch drift to share with just one plunker. Saw three steelhead role. No touches for me.
I was getting quite proficient at snagging suckers though (flyfishing). I would get them right on their nose just above the mouth. Not one, but four. Not sure what they were doing - definitely not mouthing the fly. But I can't believe I was lining them either. It all started when the sun started hitting the water. Weirdest thing.
I didn't throw the suckers on the bank because they were foul hooked  .

Talk about lockjaw , we talked to one boat that said they hooked 1 there were like 15 boats!! We saw a few fish but getting them to bite was tough. A few of the sweepers made me nervous but I was amazed how easy they were to avoid it was a piece of cake!! I don't think I got in anyones way so that was good:O) Maybe we can get a hook up next time..

Rob,
I feel your enthusiasm when you write about floating the river for your first time! I remember my first times and am feeling them again thru you. Wouldnt that be great to do a float together and we can film from my boat and make a great movie to look back at!
