How much trash do you suppose you've picked up?
Wouldn't it be great if we all picked up trash while we fished?
Someone on PP mentioned going to the river of his choice, when the fishing is closed. What a neat idea! Just to clean up!
Last year the kids and I went to Loren's drift without rods. There were people fishing, but we just picked up trash.
We even asked some people, "Is this yours?" pointing to an empty egg container, or some line, etc. They'd, of course, say no, so we put it in the sack.
Wear gloves though! This stuff if nasty!
The place sure looked nice afterwards. You should have seen the odd looks we got!
Some fishers thouht it was neat. Others just looked at us like, "What are you doing???"
New item for tackle bag: Plastic sacks and gloves.

Just a reminder, there are some dangerous things along the rivers. If you do go out to clean up a river bank and you find syringes, you should leave them alone unless you have tongs and a sharps container to put them in. Do good, but be safe! :depressed:

Jen,
Great Idea! My wife and I went hiking Wed. While driving to Eagle Fern park to hike I thought it would be nice to pick up garbage along the trail. While I always keep a 50-pack of Multi-Use Latex Gloves (Home Depot, $3) in my car I did not have a garbage bag. I do now!
By the way the I-Fish folks that had the clean-up day on Eagle Creek did a splended job

i found the easiest way to particapate in clean up on the river is to carry a 13-15 gal. trash bag in my vest. When walking back to my truck after the day on the river i take the bag out and gather sh-stuf. Before I know it there i am and the deed is done. It cost no me fishing time. One thing that is my pet pieve in life. Litter. What not just put the crap in your pocket until you get back to your car and when you get home toss it away. Naw, just toss it on the bank. Now that's a really dumb human and someone that I will risk an argument with.

Mark, of First Cast Jigs is a good example for all.
He always carries a trash bag and as he leaves, he does this as a final gift for what he took from his fishing hole.
I like that a whole bunch!
Way to go, Mark!

When I leave home I put a plastic grocery bag in my pocket and make it a point to use it during my outing. I always try to pick up at least a couple items of trash as soon as I park my rig. I know that no one will be back to pick those messes up.

This has been standard operating procedure for me. I usually carry a bag and do litter pick-up on every fishing trip. Glad to see others do the same. Seems a lot better than just complaining about it.

I am a firm believer of taking your trash out with you. Remember the fish gods are always watching you. Be good to the river and she will be good to you. By the way I just wanted to say Eagle Creek looked wonderful after the clean up effort.

This is great, you guys!
I had no idea there were so many bag people!
I need to do a serious Kilchis Cleanup after my kids tramp is in pieces down the river.
I may need some help.
In the spring, would anyone like to help us? Not only with the tramp, but just do rafts down the low water, when it is closed and do bank and tramp clean up?
We could have a barbee at my house when we are done.
You know, fry up some tires and monofilament.

I just had an idea that I'm going to start doing.
For those of you who keep a book, a diary of catches, why not write down how much trash you picked up each fishing day?
Make a little note at the bottom of your entry. It would be great to weigh it, but that might be too much trouble and not get done.
Still, at the end, it would be fun to tally it up.
I caught # steelies, # springers, blah blah blah, and 36 pounds of trash!

Love those plastic grocery bags. I carry 2-3 whenever I am outdoors. They stuff into a pocket and you even forget you have them until you need them.
