Anybody use this on the exterior of their boat?? I am thinking about it for my sled and looking for the pros and cons.

Am I crazy to consider this?? graemlins/1zhelp.gif

I had the open bow section of my Formula Vee coated with Rhino lining. It is really perfect. Non slip surface, and anchors etc can't damage it.
I highly recomend the Rhino lining. Also it can be colored to match a boat, however it does cost more than the black.

Jim, don't know if you tried the search feature but there has been quite a bit of info on these two products in the last 6 months.

Good Luck

Jim-
Because these products have rough finishes I would think it would cause excesive(sp) resistance while running in the water. I have always though that you want your boat to be as slick in the h2o as posible. I could mabey see a guy doing the sides down to the h2o line but below that I think It would cause problems while running. Just a my .02

A cheaper alternative that you can apply yourself might be herculiner (http://www.herculiner.com) . As BlueWater mentioned, it should not be used below the waterline; too much drag. However as for the wetted surface, it should be slightly hydrophobic ie. rather than buffing the wax, lightly sand it in the direction of water flow. This can be demonstrated by polishing a ladle and gently resting it on the surface of some water. As you slowly lift it, you should notice that the water tries to cling to the spoon. Now, lightly sand it and it breaks free from the surface tension much more easily. That's one reason why fish scales and sharkskin are not perfectly smooth.

Jim, ya I have LineX on the bottom and eight inches up the side of my Smokercraft. it slows the boat down some. But it makes the thing nearly indestructable.
I live in Lakewood but am from Centralia, and stop by down there at time to see the folks. So I could more that likely show it to you sometiime.

Bubba, knowing how frugal you are, I suggest the Herculiner stuff you can apply yourself.

Be sure to put it IN your boat, not on it. It will make a great sound-deadener and non-skid surface for your more clumsy clients.

Putting it on the hull will only increase drag more than you care to experience. More gas then you want to burn. Ya know it's kinda embarrassing to run outta gas with your clients on board, huh???

Hooch...The new Bubba Barge is almost out of the water when on full step so I wonder if it would effect it...but will it keep her in the hole longer? hmmmm I did like the Herculiner Idea but you don't have to go sharing with everyone how much of a cheapskate I am....nor do I appreciate being put down because I attempted to rekindle your marital spark with a nice quiet electric trolling motor ride up the Chehalis....sheesh....

BW,
Seems we switched places in life...I was born and raised in Parkland and now live here in Adna.

I don't plan on putting it on the bottom of my boat but just on the sides...I would appreciate the opportunity to look at yours though. Question...does it clean up easily??

Not too bad Jim, It is not on thick enough to texture. So it can be washed off with a hose.

Now, Jim, I didn't call you a Cheapskate (even though you are cheap by your own admission) but that ride on the Chehalis wasn't even close to Romantic!

Mrs. Hoochie was shaking way too much from seeing that monster 'Gator jump behind your boat. That thing prit'near made her jump in the river going after it. She still talks about that foot-wide head and it's length.

Woulda filled a few smokers, that one would. Biggest dam# fish I've ever seen.
