How to make friends with plunkers!

1. Pull up to the parking lot and go ask everybody "How's The Fishin'?" If the are already having a discussion with somebody else, just break right in! That's the way of the riverbank.

2. Follow up with...."WhatYaUsin'?"

3. Ask "SeeAnyCaught?"

4. Give some advice. Plunkers love to get advice.

5. Go back to your vehicle and get your pole.

6. Get about 5 to 6 feet from a guy and say "I think there is room for both of us to fish here, don't you?" Be very nice about it. Remember, you are their to make friends and plunkers are very chummy guys!!

7. Setup your stuff about 5 feet upriver from them. Spread your stuff all over the bank to mark your "spot".

8. While tying up your rig, ask for tackle. Say things like...."You got any extra swivels?" "Could I borrow a six ounce sinker?" "Do you have another one of them spin"n" glos?" This will make you one of the boys. Plunkers LOVE to help each other out!

9. Cast upstream and apologize profusely if you cross over their line. Plunkers don't care. They are just sitting there, and if they have to get up and pull their rig in, check it, and throw it back in, they will appreciate the exercize. Besides while they are reeling in you can get Your line right where you want it!

10. Now that you have got your line in the water, you can sit back and relax. Call a few friends on your cell phone. Start a conversation about your money troubles, the problems you are having with your job, wife, girlfriend, or daughter. Remember, this is a male bonding thing and Plunkers love to discuss stuff like this. Keep the fishing talk down to a minimum, because that is what you are there doing. If you fish AND talk fishing, you will get really boring, really quick. However IT IS OK to brag about how many fish you caught last week, and how you caught them. Drink alot of beer. If you have to pee, just walk down to the waters edge and let 'er go! Remember it is a bunch of guys here!

11. This IS IMPORTANT!!! When you hook a fish, be quiet about it. All those plunkers are trying to take a nap after their morning beer drinking. Set the hook, then quietly say to the guy next to you..."Excuse me, I have a fish on." He will get out of your way. Continue doing this down the line until somebody runs up with a net. If you tangle up other peoples lines, that is OK because those fish get pretty big, and the more people you have trying to winch it in, the better chance you have of beaching your Fish!!

12. If you catch a fish, make sure you tell everyone you meet about it. Give specifics. GPS coordinates are good, because A good hole is hard to find again. Give info on line, rod, reel, what you used as a lure, scent, what time of day, etc, etc. You will make many friends that will be there next time you go fishing!!!

13. Well, that's about it. Be sure to remember everyone's names, because you can be sure they WILL remember you next time you come down to the ol' fishin' hole. They are your fishin' buddies now!! And when you go down to Fisherman's marine or something you can name drop and the salesmaen will treat YOU like a celebrity!!

There it is. Go for it. Life is short, and fishing is fun.

14. Make sure and bring swimming trunks, because if you do HALF of the stuff listed
above you'll find yourself blowing bubbles from the river bed!!

I would add
15. Take your new used 4wd jeep and get stuck in the sand. Get towed out once by one of your nice fisherman freinds. Then just to be sure your 4wd isn't working get stuck again and go around and ask all your new fishing buddies to tow you out again.
True story I watched this happen at Fort stevens last August. New Yorkers I swear.

When plunking in Oregon City let everybody know you want to drink and chew. So would they mind leaving their cooler out and the Skoal or Copenage within reach.
