Trying to figure out the rod holder situation for the boat. The factory suggests the flush mount tubes, I'm partial to the Scotty (fish-on type, but much stronger) or the R.A.M. Rod holders because they are more adjustable for different types of fishing. Any SeaSport or glass boat owners have an opinion?

do a search on rod holders, there was a thread on this awhile back. I'm partial to the scotty's... joe

I destroyed 3 Fish-on in my sled last fall (diver and bait are too much for the Fish-on) at Buoy 10 and won't have another on my boat. I've converted to Scotty's (way stronger and less expensive) but am looking hard at the RAM Rod holders for the new boat.

I also think a couple of flush mounted tube type are good for simple trolling and bar-b-que and rigging tray mounts.

I'm leaning toward 4 Scotty or RAM Rods and 2 flush mounted tubes.

When I had a glass boat I had the flush mount tubes. The only thing I didn't like was no adjusting for angles. I liked the flush mount tubes because they are easier to remove the rod from. You can stick a bait cutting board in or like you said a BBQ.

SJP, your right about the fish-on holders. They won't hold up to divers or chinook esepcially when they are not set at an angle. I changed over to the Scotty holders for the same reason as you. The Scotty holders have a much better mechanism. I just about lost a pole when the fish-on holder gave to the stress of a fall chinook.

Don't forget the string of rocket launchers above that perty hard top for rod storage on the long rides out to the fishing grounds. I also vote for the scottys.

The Scotty are the best. Tempress makes some really great products but the rod holders are not among them.

You can get rod holder adapters for the tubes with Scotty. RAM says their holders will fit Scotty mounts so it looks like I can keep the boat pretty clean and still use the adjustable rod holders from either vendor.

Rocket launchers! I just like the sound of that.
