I bought Bill a Propane heater for the drift boat for Christmas.
(Who did I buy it for? )
Anyway...
It keeps really flaring up! Fire 2 feet high!
How do we fix this? He has adjusted it to death!
This is not good. Is it the heater that is bad or are we doing something wrong?

Jen, mine only does this when the air holes get blocked. That silver tube has 2 holes in it that mix air with the gas so it will burn. No air gives a big flame.
Check it out.

Might want to check the connection where the heater head fits to your tank. Make sure it is tight with no air leaks. Otherwise, take it back and get a new one. The biggest problem that I have is that they claim to be wind resistant..... My &ss. Good luck.

We just spoke with the representative at Mr. Heater.
They were very helpful and concerned.
At the safety shut off assembly, and regulator area, substantial ice builds up.
Intermittent flame ups occur.
They are exchanging our unit, UPS will pick it up the old one at no charge. They are sending out a new one. (Wow! Can you believe that?)
They are showing honest concern over their products. He was very cooperative. Gotta love it!
They recommend their new Buddy Heater. Anyone try one of these?

I have the Buddy heater and I love it! I use it in my tent and in my travel trailer - - - it is intended for such use . . . but, I still make sure I have a little extra ventillation. I would question whether it would put out adequate heat for use in most open boats?????
I would have to agree with Don Becker. I installed a Buddy Heater in my little travel trailer that I stay in when on the river for several days. My furnace quit working so I thought this heater would work just fine. I piped it into the fuel line on the trailer so I could leave the tanks outside.
It works but doesn't really have much power/heat and I blew on it to see if it would go out and it did.
So, in an open boat I wouldn'd recommend the Buddy. Under canvas, ya maybe!!
The best heater I have found, and I have had them all, is the Coleman, similar to the Mr. Heater but it has an aluminum reflector and is square on top. I don't know the model number but I have a picture of it if you would like to see it. They used to come in a single head, for the drift boat, and a double head for the sled. Quite a few BTU's and the best way to go. IMHO!!!
