Tonight while telling my girlfriend good by, standing outside, during a moment of silence.. we hear seals. Lots of seals. I'm about 2 mins away from the river, But still as the crow flys its quite a ways from my house. And I heard seals, More than once. Now the mouth of the mult. channel is near my house, are the seals up in there?
Are they after the smelt.. or.. or could it be SPRING SALMON! graemlins/idea.gif

I was on the Lewis for 2hrs today, running the new T8 and pulling a few plugs. Damn seals clear up to East Woodland, giving the Steelies LockJaw or they've fled to upper river. These sea dogs are laying ambush for the Sringers and the Herring is the appetizer. Hmmm. Very intelligent behavior. Darwin Rocks.

The new Yam T8 is back in working order; a low idle injector got clogged with "metal flashing". Trolls like a mercedes with electric start/tilt, but now I have to trim out the porpoise. Any tips for Sporjet?

The seals were out in force last weekend, We almost ran over one that was turned out to be playing in our wake coming home from the Sturgeon derby on Sat. On the north side of Sand Island.

Tuesday we were out at Trojan chasen gators and them seals were all over. Watched one thrash what looked like a colored up metalhead. How many fish can just one of those buggers eat in a day? times just how many seals? Maybe sealskin hats are going to make a comeback.

Dr.,

Look at your pump and you’ll see there is a trim plate that is adjustable. My guess is you need to push the bow down, so push the plate down. Might take a few tries to get it trimmed just right.

Last year at S. Island when the smelt were thick I am sure they were after the little fish by the way they were swimming and surfacing. Later on "Plunking" at the bar seeing them surface with definite springers tearing the belly out and leaving the rest for the seagulls. I was throwing my gear to a spot were the springers were rising and rolling, a boat saw the same thing and came parked over it. I yelled at him he yelled back then right after that they got a fish on and took it out to fight it and "Instant Karma" the seal got it. The boat went somewhere else after that. The next fish I landed there was native.

Dr. and Rapid
As Waterdog said the trim plate on the bottom of the jet drive is adjustable. In addition to that on my Weldcraft I have trim plates off the back of the hull that can be bent up or down to help trim the boat out. Which is nice for me because of the exstra weight of the trolling motor I can adjust each side separately. Now is a good time to do that with the boat ramps being pretty quiet. It does take some trial and error. Good luck and check your hull to see if you may have those trim tabs.

I was fishing The Catwalk on the Westlinn side of Oregon City last year for shad. I managed to hook a springer on my ultra-light shad gear with a tiny green grub. I was in the process of fighting it when it went bizzerk. It jumped and about five feet behind it was a seal chasing it. Fortunatly the seal gave up and I got it up to the dock only to have a bystander spook it right before we got in the net. The fished went under the dock and broke me off on some cables down there. Then as if to add insult to injury it jumped on the opposite side of the dock. I was rather P.O.'ed cause after 40 min of fight with 4 lb test I wanted something to show off for my sore arms.

we would all pay more money to have a tag or license to fish, but the real question is how much would you pay for a seal tag. i'd pay lots! and just think of the revenue the state woul raise for fish and wildlife? is this out of the question? just what would it be worth for a tag?your odds of filling the tag would be 100%.

I would love to be able to harvest one of those damn seal, don't get me wrong they are cute and all. I just would like to get enough skin to make a nice hat and maybe some boots. Or maybe I would just cut the gut out of it and leave it for the gulls, kinda like they do the salmon. I don't think that we will ever be able to get a Seal tag in this state so I guess I am just dreamin'.

Okay .. now I know its not the fumes from bosie making me crazy!

If only there was a season. KABOOM
there should be. I see absolutly no reason why there isnt. We have hunting seasons and even bounty's to keep the population of certian species down. The seal's are a growing number and they need to be thined. Is there a way to petition this kinda thing?

What does it take to get some thing on the ballot? It seems that the Cougar lovers did some thing like that to stop the use of dogs to hunt them with, or are the Seals Protected by the Feds?

Sounds like it is time to break out the
hush puppy. Silenced .22, we could rename
it the hush sealie. It is time to revisit
the mammal protection laws. I wish Free
Willy and Kieko would tear their arses
up! All you PETA people out there can
kiss mine.
