My friend invited me to go sturgeon fishing with him this saturday out on his boat and I was just wondering was place you guys would recommend going? Should we go to kelly point or should we fish lower in the river. Any info would be great thanks.

I suggest the "punch bowl". This hole is off of Kelly Point. I am going there again tomorrow. I've not gone this year and not come home with a keeper yet, and I understand from reliable sources (Pilar) that the punch bowl is red hot right now. He claims to have boated 10 keepers out of 30 fish one half day late last week. Based on my experience at this hole with him and on my own boat, I believe it.
Where is the punch bowl you ask? From the Kelly Point region, locate the little private ramp on the Sauvie Island shore; it's almost directly across from the wingdam off the point. Then from the sauvie island shore, head out deeper, in a direct line out from the ramp. The hole is small and off a ledge which is very easy to miss; precision anchoring is key. When you sound right around 100 feet of water, you're over the hole; anchor about 75 yards up current (which varies depending on the flow of both rivers and the tide), where you should be sounding about 85 feet. You want to fish the last half of the outgoing tide for best results. Fresh Cowlets smelt on an outgoing tide at this point in time with the right anchor point pretty much guarantees limits for all on board.
Be prepared to rapidly pull and move if barge and ship traffic is heading up or down the Willamette. A boat was recently sunk there after collision with a barge. If you happen to be talking about tomorrow, feel free to hale me on 16. I answer to "Adrianna". Afternoon tides are favorable at this hole for the rest of the is week. The hole under the power lines below Camas is also a good local spot.
