Kind of bored today, and since I'm new here and don't know how old most are I thought I would ask this question. How many remember Tillamook Bay when it had set nets and gillnetters still there?

I'm not old enough, but I did take out a very old gentleman a couple years ago that told me a great deal about himself and days of gill-netting chum salmon in the bay it was quite interesting.
This is taken out of a poem titled TILLAMOOK written by Mrs. D.L. Pike, 1892:
<blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><hr>When the shadows deepen into night,
The Fisherman's oars in the water gleam bright
As they lay their nets where salmon throng
Till darkness gives place to dewy morn,
When the sail boats come dancing over the bay,
Their work is done till the close of day,
When their boats come gliding from every nook
To fish in the Bay at Tillamook.
There is sport for the hunter, elk and deer to be found
In many a glade where game doth abound
There are salmon in our beautiful bay,
And numberless other fish there sport and play,
Clam, oysters, and crabs do also abound,
What more to be found, though you search the world around?
The trout, too are sporting in each sparkling brook,
In this Paradise land called Tillamook. <hr></blockquote>
Good subject rojo!

Thanks Gone Fishin. I've seen the old B & W photos that decorate the businesses in the area. I guess this poem is before the whole cow thing happened as there is no mention of the ubiquitous smell we savor nowdays.
Gone Fishin; Nice poem, not that old, but was raised in Garibaldi and do remember them in the middle 50's.
