Things are a geting slow on this board lets try this. lets hear your creative cooking idias just useing your Mr. heater.I cooked hotdogs, thought about fish on a stick never tryed it.on a day like today a hot meal on the river sure would be nice. a littel tin foil and mr heater lets hear your idias. :grin:

Blacktail deer hunting can get pretty wet and cold in the fall so around mid-day it's back to the truck, in the back under the canopy. Fire up the Mr. Heater, open a can of your favorite Progesso soup (don't forget to remove the label) and heat it up right in the can add a sandwhich and some chips and your in business. Nothing beats a hot can of soup where your wet and cold.

This reminds me of a time we had last year camping. A bunch of buddies and I went out to do a little fishing and hiking. The weather turned really bad the first night out and the only thing keeping up warm was Mr. Heater. One of my buddies in his drunken stooper decided he wanted a can of soup. He proceeded to strip the label off and place the can of soup on the heater, I went to go and get some more wood for the fire. I was about twenty yards away from the camp when I heard a loud pop, I instantly knew what had happened. The drunken idiot had forgoten to take the lid off for ventilation of pressure. Thankfully no one got hurt but I spent the next hour finding all the vegetables spattered in the bed of my truck. My sleeping bag still smells like progresso vegetable soup.

Beer can trout?

This works great at the mountain lake with a campfire and fresh brookies or bows.

Cut the opposite ends off of two beer cans. Slide a gutted and otherwise whole trout into one can and fit the two open can ends together. Add a small amount of beer and lemon juice through the drink hole. Knock several rocks out of the fire ring and rake some red coals over to the gap in the ring. Put the can on the coals and wait till it begins to smoke steam out the hole. Turn 1/4 turn and wait for the steam again. When it makes one complete turn kick the cans away from the fire and allow to cool for 2 or 3 minutes. Carefully separate the cans over a paper plate. The skinned, finned baked in beer trout will slide out onto the plate. Grab the tail and with a few shakes pull the backbone and head free of the boneless, skinless filets.

Wa la beer can trout. Don't use Keystone cans they are lined with plastic. Bet this would work on Mr. Heater too.

I've got a coleman stove in my boat and believe me
on a cold morning,Hashbrowns,Sausage,Eggs,and hot coffee can not be beat :smile: :smile: UM UM GOOD.In the afternoon hot BEER DOGS !!!.Had to beat the fishermen away last springer season.Its kind of a pain when your by yourself cus sure as heck just as everything starts getting done FISH-ON !!,Then the scrample starts,set the hook,turn it off(food),throw the anchor,catch the fish,reanchor,punch your card,reheat,FISH-ON !!,start all over again.
wait untill your back at the dock reheat and answer all the questions throw food away go home clean fish.Then cook breakfast or lunch,TAKE A NAP :smile: :smile:

Steve Fleming of Mah-Hah Outfitters while taking clients down the John Day in the spring fishing for BIG smallmouth often has a dutch oven in his DB cooking a stew with cobbler for dessert. Now that's a shore lunch.
I've also "baked" steelhead steaks by putting mayo in the gut cavity, season with salt and lemon pepper, wrap in tin foil and placed on hot coals until the meat flakes. Should work atop a heater.

The old seats totally puked. Those are built from 5/4 cedar and are reversable for 1 or 2 man set up. They are secured into the stringers with a piece of 3/4 steel pipe.Turn it over and you have two big "drawers" for tackle. "Necessity is the mother of invention"

Oh yeah, it also has a motorwell so I will be seeing you at F4.

So where can a 'civvy' get ahold of some MRE's.?? They sound much tastier than those 'ham and lima beans' we got in basic training and Korea! :smile:

Do an internet search for MRE's, I cannot remember where but I have seen them for sale on the net. Also if memory serves me correctly there was a differnt name for "Ham and Lima beans" in the military :shocked:

I love to cook and it seems when ever we go out I always bring the chow. The best way I've found to cook is by using the small webber gas bbq. Two of my favorite recipes. Teriyaki salmon and vegies. I just put them in foil that fits on the bbq, just bring it in the cooler until lunch. It works great. I also due a homemade sausage stew that i put in small aluminum bread loaf pans with foil over them and heat them up on the bbq.Just bring one for each guy its plent and good food is hot, eat it right out of the pan. rolls wraped in foil to fit the bbq go great with the stew. You can't beat that small bbq for cooking.
