I'm looking to add a second bilge pump in my 21ft sled. I currently have a 1100 gph attwood mounted in front of my indboard, but it doesn't come on or pump any water out until there is a good 3" of water where it is mounted. Near the transom I have more than the 3" or so. The bilge has an internal float switch or I can overide it like most with the 3-way switch.
I want to mount the second bilge close to the transom to keep out as much of the water possible. What have you all had good experiences with and what gpm should I go with for the second bilge? I don't think I want one with a seperate float switch, but what do you think about the seperate float switches? Anyone with good or bad experience with the ones with replaceable cartridges?
Thanks
Pilar

Hi Thick n Thin. I would buy a copy of the first one. Makes keeping spares a little less expensive.
Use the separate switch and you can control the pump a little better. The only problem may be running the pump too long so it sucks air and quits pumping. This then causes the pump to run with no load and wears it out. You can move the switch to find the ideal setting.
You can never have enough bilge pump.
I have (2) 650 GPH attwoods.

I just installed a Rule Platinum Series,(27s-plt)1100 gph. which has a fully automatic operation. it has s soft start function which spins the impeller every couple min. if there is any resistance against it it will activate full power. if it free spins it shuts down and waits for the next cycle any where from 2-10 min. if you turn the switch off and then back on it comes on as a normal bilge, then shuts off when the bilge is clear of water and begins the montering with the soft start thing... the power it uses in the montering cycle is extremely low . kinda spendy.. $75.00

Thanks for the info Pilar. I agree with you that you can't have enough bilge pump.
B-C that's the firat I've heard of the soft start. That Rule pump sounds interesting, but your right about being spendy!
Thanks again
