Hello to all! I just registered, after “lurking” for several months. Tanner told me about this site over a year ago. I visited the site and book marked it then. At that time, I hadn’t done much salmon/steelhead fishing for several years and didn’t find the site to be of particular interest to me. This fall I began getting back into salmon/steelhead fishing and remembered this site. Since then, I have been viewing the site and the good advice you folks bring to it on nearly a daily basis since sometime in November. In fact, I have to say this has already become my favorite fishing/hunting site. Jennie does an exceptionally good job!! I was especially happy to see that you had included a hunting forum (maybe, I just missed seeing it before . . . ). The Oregon-specific and/or Northwest-specific forums, on the other (hunting) sites I am a member of, are just not that active. [Administrator/Moderators, because of my “triple” interest here forum-wise, I am posting this on the Ifish Community, the Bass and Panfish and the Hunting, Oregon and Washington forums . . . . . I trust that’s not a violation of the rules. If it is, please delete off of the latter two and leave the one on the Ifish Community forum.]

I would like to acknowledge those on this board whom I know: I’ve already mentioned Tanner, who introduced me to this site. He and his family have been friends and business associates for many years. He and I have fished together several times. Len Self and I went to school and played H.S. football together. I fished the Clackamas once or twice with Len. I met Bill Hedlund about 23 or 24 years ago in Tillamook, when, as a newly trained Safeco adjuster, I was assigned the North Coast area and met Bill to pick-up an existing claim file that he had been handling for Safeco, as an Independent Adjuster. I have a vague recollection that, over the ensuing years, we have had a conversation-or-two regarding other claims. No doubt there are others on here whom I know but don’t recognize their “user name” - - - - perhaps they’ll “reveal” themselves in response, or e-mail me.

‘A little about me: I am a native Oregonian. Hillsboro is my hometown and I currently live in Wilsonville. I am an Oregon Licensed Realtor and Oregon Licensed General Adjuster. I’m an avid hunter (both “smokepole” and rifle) . . . . blacktail deer, Roosevelt Elk, grouse . . . ‘usually also carry a cougar and a bear tag . . . ‘have sorta’ done a little turkey hunting. Nearly all of my hunting and fishing is either NW corner of the state (Trask, Wilson, Saddle Mountain, Willamette) or around Oakridge (Indigo Unit). I tie my own drift rigs, make some of my own lures, and I handload for every centerfire rifle and handgun I own. So far, this fall, I have fished for salmon and/or steelhead in the Wilson, Trask (main stem and North Fork), Three Rivers, Nestucca, and Little Nestucca - -- - all, so far, without success). I am interested in doing some bass fishing (‘haven’t done that for many years). Most of the fishing I’ve been doing for the past several years is for cuts and bows in lakes located in the areas I hunt - - - ‘always have a trout pole with me! I’m known, among my hunting/fishing buddies, for “showing-‘em-up” by catching trout in those little “puddles”, out in the “puckerbrush”, where “ . . . there just can’t be any fish in there . . .”.

Having introduced myself, I’ll also let you know that I will likely not post often. (I heard that . . . . someone said, “considering the length of this one, thank god for small favors” I generally only post when I feel I have something of value to share. Nevertheless, I’ll probably continue to check-in on a very regular basis.

Welcome Don. Maybe you could share a little about how you can tell a mud puddle from a sweet little trout lake. Other than fishing in it of course ...

Pilar, you've pretty-much got it . . . . except, I do omit the obvious mud puddles.

Welcome Don, nice first post.

I use to fish with Len every fall before he became a guide for several years in a row, but if anybody ask, I wont admit to it.
