Seems like we came out ok in the negotiation process...I was unable to make the meeting but hopefully the commercials will be out of the river by mid March. There are some things that I am not real pleased with primarily the use of a 5.5 inch mesh net and calling it a tooth tangle fishery but that is whats going to happen. The enforceable part that makes is close to a tooth tangle fishery is that the regulation will read that from start to finish each set should not be any longer than 45 minutes. That should give each net only about 15 minutes to soak...but the 5.5 still bugs me! But they will fish until they have there 19,000.
We have 20,000 to go after. Season opens above
I-5 March 16th I believe. 2 fish both must be clipped until of course you get to the zone above Bonneville where that funny looking flat bottom boat with the large Parousel fishes then it is two fish of any clipping.

Does anybody belong to the SW Washington Anglers Association??

There is more of course, and a prospective opportunity to volunteer...but I need more info.
on some things.

I'm president of the Southwest Anglers Lewis River chapter. We had our meeting last night.Larry Swanson was looking for volunteers to go on Gillnet boats as observers You had your choice of daytime or night. We'll also be takeing a pretty good hit on Sturgeon fishing this year with a closure from April 1 to may 15th and all of August and Sept, unless the total before Aug. is less then expected. They expect the gillnetters to be out of the river (hopefully) by Mar 21 at least by Mar 28,IF they get there quota(spelling?)if not they'll be in untill they do.WE'll have the month of April and May to get our 2% if we don't get it the gillnetters will because if we don't get ours the indians won't let us have our 2% next year it will be less.SO GET OUT AND FISH !!!!Whats going to hurt us is if we have a big meltoff and the rivers turn to mud and high flows and we can't fish because this will not make any differance to them.We didn't get them so we don't need that big of an allotment. The river from bonniville to I-5 is supposed to open Mar.15th.I don't remember the date from I-5 to the coast. We need to hope the netters get theres anf get out !!GOOD LUCK.If anyone is interested in going out as an opserver on a gill net boat call me and I'll give you Swansons phone #.Don't wait to long he wanted names last night to turn in so it can get started.
I hope this gives you some info you wanted. My phone # is 360-835-5848

Bob,
Glad your a member...I wasn't going to post much about the observer thing until I knew more. Here is my concern regarding the observer. In order for the commercials to participate in the Tooth Tangle process they have agreed to have observers, in fact it is required. As of right now they do not have the funding for these observers so are excited about the fact that sportsman may jump on the wagon and observe. Now understand this is my understanding. So with the observers in line, we are keeping the commercials in the water. Do you know anything about this? I was told this by a WDFW person yesterday on the phone.

Also...who is on the board of SW Wa Anglers?...is their a web page?...I know nothing about the group and what they stand for, is their some general information?

Thanks,
Jim

We are in the process of getting our web page back up right now, should be up soon.I don't know if we'er keeping them in the water or not. There supposed to have live boxes on board to put the natives and revive them before releasing them and we'er supposed to count them as alive or dead thats about all I know,If what you say is true I want to have my name removed from the observer list, because I have no use for them and want them out of our river PERIOD.If you want to know what we'er about send me your address and I will mail you and application it has all the info you want on it.Larry Swanson,Gorden Bardy,Larry Synder are the guys from our club that go's to all the pac meetings.Larry Swanson being the main man to speak for us at the meetings. He attends all of them and has a voice in decideing our allotments and the splits between us and the netters. My phone # is 360-835-5848,I'll give you larry's phone # and you can talk to him personnaly if you want. That way you'll get it right from the man and not get any misunderstanding from me.I'm good but not perfect, well maybe a little

What gripes me is the tests that were done showed the "soak time" for nets should be 20 to 30 minutes max. Where did the 45 minutes come from?
