Does anyone fish above the falls for winter fish? I know they are almost 100% unclipped fish but always fun to fight those wild beauties! I know a few guys that fish it every now and then and have been doing really good actually. More that just a few hits a trip and usually a couple fish released. Yes they know how to release a fish unharmed. I may be going down to try some plunkin Sat so ill let you all know how it went if I do. If anyone here does fish it do you have a problem hooking up? Seems that the winter fish bite "shorter" that the summer runs?   Jon

I have fished it in the past.
This is the first year in a few that the Willamette is open to Salmon/steelhead before April 1. Going to the ODFW meetings I believe helped change that rule. As soon as the Big W is fishable, I'll be there.

Jon,
I fish from a boat and fish from Newberg to Independence. Last year was the first year I fished above Salem. This year should be a good one now that the river has rolled the rocks around. Good Luck.

After Three Rivers Fri. My dad and I stopped and tryed a lil plunkin on the Willamette and saw one of our friends down there he fished it all day Thirs and Fri with no luck not even a hit. He also fished it Sat and got a couple hits but no fish. Water is lookin pretty good and there are fish in the river just seems like the bite has turned off after the last rain. Ill probly give it a shot mid week sometime if the weather stays the way it is. Jon
