Fished the point today for about an hour and didn't see a fish caught. I ended up heading downriver and doing pretty good in another spot with 20 plus fish to end the day. No keepers but we had 8 that were between 40 and 41 inches. I talked to a couple of guys at the ramp that did really well in the Willamette. I was told that when the nets get dropped in the Columbia, the fishing picks up around the St. Johns bridge. I guess he new what the deal was cause he had 2 nice keepers in the bottom of his little Smokercraft. Oh well, it's back to work for a little while but plan on hitting her again next week
What bait? I've found sand shrimp and pickled squid to be working best ... the bite has been very light ... what I normally think are "belly suckers" have been nice fish. The trick for me is to use a rod with a very sensitive tip ... the brute-rod just doesn't tell me when someone's knocking on the door.

I'm heading down by the Point Sunday. I've got some of last years smelt and sand shrimp. I read that mono works good for light biters. They have more chance to take the bait before sensing resisitance. You do lose some on the hook set though. Is the bend before getting into the Columbia any better than actually going down stream?

Light Biters???? What river are you fishing. The fish we are getting are wolfing it. Most of the time if you aren't fishing bait they want they will pick it up, drop it and move on. Key Point- good bait + location = fish in the boat. I do agree with fishing lighter gear , It's more fun    . I prefer to run tuff on all my rods it is much more positive on the bite and hookset . You can use lots less lead which makes it more fun too. Good luck to all tomorrow , We were in by 10:30 today with 3 nice ones. 50,49 and 45. We released 2 others around 42-44 plus quite a few of subs.
