My apologies. I originally forgot to give credit for the this picture, which was sent to me, long ago by SLIDERITE!

I don't know what it is about salmon and steelhead eggs when they are cured, but like I said earlier, they just make me happy happy!
Marie sent me some really pretty pictures, and I turned them into my wallpaper on my computer.
I think these are Amerman eggs, sent to me a while back.

I feel like having a contest. If we can come up with a way to choose a winner, like vote or something, I'll give the winner a Leatherman Micra, and some other goodies.
Help me figure out a way to honestly pick a winner, and let's go for it!
In the mean while, post those egg pictures!

Maria, they don't get any prettier than this photo. You must a degree in art. The only thing that would make them look better would be if you had a photo of a big chinook with a glob of those eggs hanging out its mouth (and my 3/0 hook).

fop, that looks like about enough to get through springer season and a little bit into fall fish season. :smile: You can never have to many eggs and always need ot have some old nasty ones for those egg mooch's that seem to never have any of there own.

Kieth, when is the ultimate cure going to be out? I am always looking for another good cure to try.Of course I add my secret scents to them while they cure. I have eggs cured four diferent ways in the freezer now, can always use one more flavor.

I'm going to ask some expert writers etc, for an opinion on how to vote, what we are looking for. Until then, post, post post egg pics!
I'll make it a good prize, maybe a combo of most of our ready set donation people.

Well, we've ran into some problems with the labeling and it's starting to tick us off. I know it will be out on the shelves by next falls egg season... :depressed: But I promise, it's worth the wait..
fop- You've got issues man. It just kills me to see all them eggs unfrozen. But it's neat to see a good egg supply. I've got about 200 pints in the freezer... :shocked: :tongue: :grin:

I couldn't resist one more entry after I cleaned the hen I got today. http://www.ifish.net/uploads/33431910.jpg As you can see(hope you don't mind) I've got a new camera that I need to figure out. So I've been using it here.
Maybe we need several catagories of winners; Commercial, just like the Oscars; commercial, private, steelhead, salmon, fresh, cured ect. Might be enough for an hour long special hosted by the reunited group "Salmon Dave and the Spawnettes" (yes they were a real group). I'll try anything to win a prize.

Yes, the contest shall be named the Annual Ifish Eggscars Award. It shall be awarded by a panel of three judges.
The final judging shall be done on Sunday if I have time, if not, early in the week.

Ok, It's been fun reading all the responses on the ol' eggerator. You should see my refer. in Alaska, that's a gross one. Now my responses back.

PrimeEvil: Not an insane amount if you take it into consideration we just got off an excellent Salmon season here on the coast of Washington. Been knocking them since the middle of September and some of them are females. So instead of just throwing them away I put them up and give most away cuz' I don't use very many. Don't have a King season where I fish and use mostly spinners for Silvers and Sand Shrimp for Steelhead. So, the supply gets rather large but when I'm getting waaaay to full I just dump a few. No big deal.

NEUTRON: No smell. They are mostly sealed in the jars and the junkers get tossed. The spillage on the bottom was from a bag of Steelhead that leaked and I didn't see it till I saw the picture. It's all clean now. I also do the curing out in the carport on the egg table, and it's got running water and all goes down the drain.

FOP- No I wouldn't freeze the moldy ones. But as for those that still have good texture I would. Remember, eggs will keep curing until frozen and the chemical process never stops and it will restart the chemical breakdown process when the eggs are re-thawed. It's the firmentation of sugar that's in most chem cures that causes the eggs to break down, firmentation's OK but not for too long.

A little patience and you too will have a chance at the Ultimate Egg Cure, it will be out on the shelves by mid-summer and ready for next years egg extravaganza..... :grin: I LOVE EGGS! :tongue:
