What is it? Best rod for the money ... it may be really expensive if it gives great feel, or it might be really affordable ... what do you think is the best drift rod ... and tell me why!

I have a ton of rods. I like the convenience of simply taking one back if it breaks or otherwise gets screwed up. So I buy pretty much only North Fork rods from Fisherman's Marine. You hand them the busted one and they hand you a new one. I also have some fancy rods from Loomis, Lamiglas and some other high-end stuff, but frankly I couldn't tell the difference between any of them if I was blindfolded. I find the need to spend $300-400 for a fishing rod to be quite amusing and a tribute to good marketing. Now reels --- that's another story.

Lamiglas- Bill Herzog model 10' 6-10# 2 piece.
Loomis - STR 1084c IMX 2 piece.

Use and like both.

I just bought a Allstar 1084 and for the money I think it was a good purchase. It has a bunch more feeling (crys and whines when not being fished) than my older rod and it was finished well.

Pete - If you really want sensitivity and are willing to pay the price, try the Loomis IMX STR 1082C. If you don't believe me, ask Terry Mulkey, one of Oregon's top guides. He has 6 of these rods in his boat for drift fishing. I love mine.

If you want to save a few bucks, try the same rod from Rainshadow, built by TH Rods (IFISH Sponsor). They say it compares between GL3 and IMX, but for $100 less. I agree. However, I still like my IMX better. Good Fishing, Drifter.

The best salmon and steelhead rod for the money is the Allstar Elite series. I have too many to list and they have performed very well for me and my clients. They have about the same sensitivity as a GL3 Loomis, but they retail for about the same, if not less than, a GL2.

Folks say this choice is too light but I beg to differ. Loomis 1024c, I can afford GL2. Ask Bugleman, I demoed this rods sensitivity and finesse on a recent drift trip.

I use the Lommis IMX 1084, it's so sensitve and light, and I've caught fish over 30 pounds on it.

I have been fishing the TH 1084c (SicTi guides)
This is a Rainshadow blank (GL4 quality) w/ a GL2 price. $170 ($195 w/ SicTi Guides)
It is a great rod. Very light, sensitive and a wonderful action. I would put it up to any IMX Loomis 1084c.

Since I am retired, I can't afford those expensive rods and reels. I still use an old Lamiglas that I bought in the late 60's for $80. It has taken a lot of fish. I used to have an old Ambassador that I used with it, but I did get a new Quantum a few years ago. It works good.
I did get a new Diawa spin reel and a 10'6" rod for jigs. That will do me.
