Without given up a honey hole, where is a good winter sturgeon spot? Thanks for any help.

Ron,
I don't know where Roy is but if you're coming down I5, you can cross the river at Longview and fish the "Trojan Hole" right at the old cooling tower east of Ranier (launch at Goble or Ranier). There are not a lot of people fishing it right now and it is giving up some fish. The incoming tide seems to be the time to hit it and smelt is the bait of choice, by far.
Good luck.

Boat or bank? Pilar could probably help you out the most but a search on Kelly Point 6 would give you a lot of info I am sure.
My boat is to small to anchor in the Columbia so I usually fish the Willamette. I do pretty good launching at the St. Johns bridge and head upstream to Shenanigins (sp??) Restaurant, or just down stream from the bridge on the east side, or a mile or so downstream from the bridge (stay right at the fork or you will be headed up the Multnomah Channell) where the river bends to the right as you are headed downstream on the west side.
I have some gps points if you want them.

Screaminreelron, go to the Kelly point area and look around. I suggest doing this with the understanding that you will watch and learn the first day and then get into it the second day. Make sure your anchor, line and puller is up to snuff ( there are many posts on this subject ). Be ready to clear out of any spot wanted by commercial traffic. The traffic in the area described can be pretty intense. 6 blasts of the barge horn is 'Move right now you stupid boater!'.
Time your visit to the beginning of the ebb tide. Show up right at high tide and notice which boat guys are always standing up and which are sitting and sleeping. The guys standing up with rods in their hands are anchored in a good spot. Location is everything. Once you get a location figured out, be the first guy there the next day and go to town.
The container docks (T6) up the Columbia from KP is also a great spot.
In general look for a big change of depth. Fish the slope between shallow and deep. Anchor over the shallow area upstream from the deep area.
Don't neglect the bait. Cowlitz river smelt is the best and works everywhere.
Ron, I assumed you meant boat, hope this helps.

Approach Pilar's ship and crew with great caution. Sound 10 blasts, hoist the signal flags on the yardarm, hold your entire anchor system in the air, CLEARLY identify yourself and IMMEDIATELY let him know you are not going to try and anchor in between him! Or you can just ask him if you could tie off to one of his rear cleats! Mu Haa Haa.

The Captain's Shanty (Elliot Crawford Finch)
I've been a sailor since my birth
YO HO HO AND A RUDDY BUM BUM
Left my home, for all it's worth
YO HO HO AND A RUDDY BUM BUM
CHORUS
Lime, scurvy, ambergris and marmalade
Hoist the petard and we'll haul away the bully boys
Lime, scurvy, ambergris and blubber, we're
Bound for Cincinnati
Fifteen years and we haven't seen a shore leave
Heave! Heave!
Sight the bowsprit, down the grog
Carve the turkey in the log
Come the day she's out of port
Keel the bosun o'er the thwart
Through a fluke the spout did wail
And that's the end of my scrimshaw tale

My friends boat is broken at the moment :depressed: so I am now a bankie.

Thanks

You can always try the two old wooden piers that are right before Goble...or there are a couple of places on the dike in Scappoose also.
Have you ever tried the docks in front of the courthouse here in town?
There has been many keepers caught there over the years.
Hi there Z-MAN, I have tried the docks here but havent had to much luck, I did try the double docks in goble but there are alot of snags there.
Thakns for the info
