All it takes to make the world different, better, is small acts of kindness.
It makes YOU feel better, and it makes others feel good too!
The Unexpected behaviour thread made me think of this.
Why not call someone up, or e mail someone on the board that obviously doesn't have a boat and invite him/her fishing?
Is there safety issues involved that prevent this?
I have stopped to ask fishermen on the Kilchis road if they need a ride to their rig. I figure this is fairly safe, as they usually have hip boots, rods with them. Is it? Or am I crazy?
People sometimes get really nervous and edgy as they approach me in a drift boat while I am drift fishing from shore.
They expect to have to drift on through this good hole because I am there.
I used to be fairly possesive of it. I changed my tune recently. It's so much more fun to let the drift boat guys have a try at it, plugging it.
I can fish it any old day. They probably drove hours to get to drift the Kilchis.
What simple little acts of kindness can we show to our fellow anglers in the upcoming year?
I guarantee you that the reaction you get when you are kind is as big of a rush as a fish... (Well.... ALMOST!)
Another one: When you see a guide on the river, be kind to them! Say things that make the clients feel good about their guide, which in turn make the guide feel good.

Anyway, thanks for letting me get this off my chest!
My resolution for this year:
Be kind to our fine anglered friends!

I have met many of people fishing hear in Oregon I love it where else are you going to get to be out in Gods country and meet someone you already know you have something in common with(fishing) it is great. I know if I am sitting on the bank fishing and the person next to me notices he ran out of led then I am more then happy to give a little lead come on it is only a piece of metal. I remember one time I was fishing of the Rocks and Gerabaldi(sp) Any way I was just out there casting a spoon never fishing in salt water before so not knowing if any thing would bite it. And the old guy next to me had caught a bunch of these fish still don't know the name he said they were good eating. So I asked him what he was using he said shrimp so I kept fishing and right before he left he gave me the shrimp he had left not knowing for to rig them he sat down and spent the time to teach me how to rig it up and everything I was shocked why would he help me out. Any way needless to say I got my fill of catching fish that day still don't know what they were called but wow was it fun on the little trout rod I was using. And Jennie you are not crazy you are just kind and as for the Boat idea I do not have a boat to take anyone out in but if I did I would be the first one in line to bring someone from this board. That's why God put us on this earth To love one another and to love him!

Jennie,
I did just that on Friday on the board. I posted an open boat and somebody took a chance with out knowing me and I had the oppurtunity to meet two great people and fish with some new freinds. We had a great day on the water and enjoyed the eagles flying over head and the salmon jumping, we cought some salmon but no steelhead but it was still fun.

Couple of months ago livininthezoo wanted to know if he was crazy to use his salmon rod for sturgeon fishin. Money was tight, and I totally sympathized with him. I told him I'd would have hated to hear about the one that got away, so I told him he could borrow my sturgeon rod. Fishbait was so touched by my act of kindness, he offered some smoked salmon to me, which I never had the chance to meet up with him...hope to someday!

That offer is still open to livininthezoo, or anyone else who's in need. I've got 30 or so rods just collecting dust. Mind you I won't sell them (unless things really got tough), but they'd be better in someones hands with a FISHON.

Happy New Year, and practice random acts of kindness!
