What brand of shrimp oil is your favorite?

I've been using Marie's and Pro Cure's.

There are a lot out there: Marie's, Pro Cure, Mikes, Smelly Jelly......What's your's?

smelly gelly works well for me, oil seems to come off to easy while smelly jelly stays on for a real long time.

Depends on what I'm using it for. If I'm fishing plugs I'll used the smelley jelly. Sometimes the same with bait wraps. My favorite is Mikes when using sometype of yarn or I'll inject it into my smelt or bait also. There is one other out there that I used last year for springers I don't remember the Name Baitboy always had it I'll ask and see if he'll post it.
I have never had the pleasure of using Marie's and will probably stick with what I know works until I see it with my own eyes. Of course if someone gave me a sample I would try it.

I really believe in Marie's Shrimp Oil.
I've used it enough to know it makes a difference, and once you get that confidence of catching on something, it's just darn hard to switch or try something else!

You have to try it to believe it! (http://www.ifish.net/TillamookBait.html)

After opening various scents, how long do they keep before you should replace them? Several seasons? or should they be replaced each year?

They get used up sooner than that for me but I wouldn't keep them over a year, they could either go bad or loose their smell.

Besides MARIE'S SHRIMP SCENT I use alot of SMELLY JELLY STICKY LIQUID ,but a word of advice always crack the lid & smell ,some are brand new & flat ,when buying them.Keep them out of sun on a warm day, this also kills the scent and they go flat very fast.

I have used all the above mention and found that MARIES works well if fresh. PRO CURE works well for several years after you purchase it.

I have had good success using the Pro-cure bait oils. Plain sand shrimp or the sand shrimp and prawn combo works well.

PRIME EVIL when you remove the cap and it has little or no smell ,the smell is flat ,it is gone. Some bottles are like this new,so I check them before I buy'em.Nothing worse than to get on the river and open a new bottle of juice and it has no smell. :depressed:

David, I use some of Maria's today on a jig and hooked my first jig fish. I also was using that braided line you advised me to use and landed 2 of 3 hooked. This was my first limit of steelhead this season. When the hit the plugs, the hookset was relatively easy as I pulled the rod our of the holders, I lifted streight up and never really jerked the fish. I was concerned the hooks would pull loose because there is little to no stretch in the Power Pro lines. Now I am sold and appreciate your adives on the line.
Thanks again and may all your trips be filled with fun, experience and memories for your clients
It was so wet out there today, the hooks in my tackle box were wet too.

I keep a full assortment of scents on the boat. I like Mikes Glo Shrimp and the Smelly Jelly Shrimp oils. After about six months they become recycled into a sturgeon soup of oils (ie...herring, shrimp, anchovie, and so on).

I always try my baits without oils first. Then I try experimenting. I have done this with the salmon and now will be trying this with the Steelies.

I have used Mikes and Smelly Jelly - both with limited success. I am fixin to get a bottle of Marie's and blew my chance at the tackle swap.

I am still not dialed into steelhead so don't feel the brand of scent I use will make that much difference. I need to get over not wanting to throw anything out and use fresh products everytime out.

I like using Marie's shrimp oil and Pro Cure's. Marie gets my business when I'm down by her place.

Anybody who has fished with me knows that I "wash" my hands with Mikes Shrimp Oil before I touch any bait...it also goes liberally into my herring brine for Springers. However because of my belief in supporting local business...I will be trying some of Maries this spring.

Mikes Anise and sometimes Earthworm. I add something to the Mikes for a little extra kick. Tried the Maries Shrimp Oil, it works too.

MARIE'S SHRIMP OIL works the best for me. I don't know what she's putting in there but it smells like real shrimp to me. Dennis and Marie have so many live shrimp residing at their place, everything you buy there smells like shrimp....sandwiches, donuts.

Another here for Marie's Shrimp oil. One day last Oct. on N.FK. Nehalem, I had eight or nine hookups on silvers and chinook. Partner who wasn't using it had one. Could have been something else, but some days scent really gives you the edge.

Used Marie's too on the Columbia at Willow Bar, retrieving the Alvins every 20minutes to re-apply it. It's effectiveness was less clear there. Particularly in comparison to other scents, no strong winner emerged.

We do try to take care of all of our various scents. In the boat they're in the cooler, at home anything that's been open is kept in the fridge.
