Licensing System Experiencing Shut Downs

PORTLAND - The computerized licensing system to issue hunting and fishing licenses shut down Monday due to problems with a new software program, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife said. Officials are working to get the system operational as soon as possible.
Hunters who were successful for controlled elk hunts beginning Jan. 1, 2002 or for Sauvie Island duck hunts for Jan. 1, 2002 may obtain hand-written hunting licenses and tags at an ODFW office that issues licensing documents. Locations include: Portland headquarters, Bend, Central Point, Charleston, Clackamas, Corvallis, Hines, La Grande, Newport, Ontario, Roseburg, Salem, Sauvie Island, Springfield and Tillamook.
Salmon, steelhead, or sturgeon anglers who do not have a 2002 license or 2002 harvest tag may purchase a one-day or three-day license at the ODFW offices listed above to fish on New Year's Day.
ODFW offices close at 5 p.m. and will not be open New Year's Day.

We scored ours. Bi-Mart came back on line about 5:35 tonight. They didn't have hatchery tags though. At least we can fish tomorrow.

Hunting, Fishing Licensing System Repaired

PORTLAND - Oregon's hunting and fishing licensing system became operational at 5 p.m. today after a day-long shut down due to a technical malfunction. Hunters and anglers may again purchase 2002 licenses at any license agent during normal business hours.
The Point-of-Sale computerized licensing system experienced slow downs and periodic problems over the weekend. The system was shut down briefly on Sunday and at 11 a.m. today.
In response to the problem, Oregon Department and Fish and Wildlife offices began issuing hand-written licenses and tags. Other license vendors may not issue hand-written documents.
ODFW computer programmers believe that the problem was a combination of a software and hardware problems. They worked diligently through the day to implement a back up system. Programmers will conduct a full evaluation later this week to avoid similar problems in the future.
ODFW offices fielded numerous phone calls today because many hunters and anglers wanted to start the new year participating in outdoor recreational activities.

I just got my license and tag at Hollywood Freddy's at 9:30. Feel like I won the lottery! What a fiasco. Look out Mr. Sturgie - somebody's gonna pay! They're open 'til 11 if anybody out there is desperate and feeling lucky.
