My boat tags expire at the end of this month. I am planning on going on a boat excursion tomorrow so decided I had better get the new tags on the boat and trailer.
I put the new sticker on the boat, and go to put the tag on the trailer, and the license plate is gone.  Not sure how long it has been gone, as it isnt something on my checklist. I cannot remember the last time I saw it, but then again I cannot remember checking it since last time I put tags on it. Looks like it might have been stolen, I cannot imagine it falling off.

BOE - that sucks man.
I'd hate to be the guy running around with one that fell off.
Hopefully you have notified the authorities, pronto. No telling what bad deeds are in store for your tag. Get on the horn if you haven't!

Mine got torn off the trailer when backing in my driveway. The first time I lost it and then got another and the second one was hanging buy one screw and I tore it off and threw it in the back of the boat and it stayed there for two years and was never bothered by the police. I'd just go fishing until I got the new one and if I got pulled over just I didn't know it was missing.

Roy, very interesting. I work for an insurance company and have found that missing plates turn up in the strangest places. Like on the back of another stole car or in this case the back of a stolen trailer. It is very important to report a stolen or lost plate to the police so they will have a record of it being stolen. It may save my trailer from disappearance someday. When we report a stolen trailer they include the correct license plate numbers and watch for them. If they spot a trailer like maybe ours, and the plate is not the correct numbers and if that plate was never reported, they would drive off without looking very close. However, if the lost of stolen plate had been reported they would then have that plate and possilbly a boat and trailer that had been stolen. ANYWAY, report those lost plates as it helps spot stolen trailers and boats.
Thanks for the reminder to put my new sticker on the boat. It's sitting next to the computer and here it is. I'm going to do it first light tomorrow. Happy New Year and may amny fish find your wet hooks.

Roy,
Someone probablly took it when stealing your gas.
Actually Jon's plates fell off of his trailer as well. hmmmm is there a pattern forming? He actually recovered his. It's a bummer that it's gone, but shouldn't slow you down to much.

All I can say is....."if it weren't for bad luck, you wouldn't have any luck at all" !! Thanks for sharing your trials and tribulations in life Roy, otherwise this might get a little boring.
Good luck with your fishing. Hopefully 2002 will bring you better luck then 2001.

What is the law for getting plates. I have had 5 or 6 boats up to 19 ft and never had a plate.Am I just lucky or what.

Bugs, I went through this a few years ago. I think it's based on total weight of boat and trailer. I was pushing the limit empty, so I figured with water in the bilge, gear, gas, etc., I would be over it and got the plates. However, I'd love to see a trooer try and weigh it to make sure.

1800lbs. and under you don't need a plate. There is a length limit too regardless of weight, but, I don't remember how long. My 17' weighs in about 1730lbs. loaded. Never been pulled over and I have been followed many times.
