Fished the upper Trask today near the mouth of the North Fork. My sons and I arrived around 1030 this morning to find a few others fishing the area. We journeyed over from Yamhill through Willamete Industries property and State Foresty Land. Pretty and scenic drive with no other vehicles on the road.

I managed one hook up with a nice hatchery hen of about 10-12 lbs. I had her on for about 10 minutes before she took to a small root ball at the waters edge and shook the hook. We then ventured down stream to find it was quite windy. I didn't see any other fish for the remainder of the day. We finished off by fishing the middle to upper stretches of the Wilson but again no fish. It was a pleasurable time to spend the day with my fishing partners who are now in high school and often can't go with Dad during the week.

On Christmas afternoon I talked to 2 driftboats floating the trask and they both had 2 clipped steelies. I went up the Trask this morning and some guy already had a clipped fish on the bank right after daylight. Not bad for a river that is not planted, and you are fishing for strays.

I managed to catch one wild fish and let it go. It figures the only wild fish I heard of, I caught and had to let go.

Has anyone been up on the trask lately? Thinking about going there this weekend
