How many boats were there and what was the winning weight?

4 boats and i think it was about 10pnds. only one boat caught fish so he could have only caught one fish and won. ruff day.

Just my advice..But I would delete this thread really quick before it is found by more of us salmon/steelhead guys. That is a native fish and from the sounds of things, you kept it. Which is against the law. And if you didn't keep it, you severely mis-handled the fish by putting your fingers in the gills. Please do not keep a fish unless you know the rules and regulations. The runs are already facing enough obstacles without sportsman disrespecting them. But you know now, and please spread the knowlege to your fellow bass fishers.
It was a nice fish by the way, and don't take offense, because I started out bass fishing since day one. But please know what you're doing before you act. And I would still delete this post if you don't want to face the salmon/ steelhead guys.

Nice NATIVE steelhead. Did you read the regs for where you were fishing?
There are very few places in the state that have bass AND allow for retention NATIVE steelhead. You're treading on thin ice here...
Good luck.

retained or not, that's a DEAD wild steelhead...
not something to be proud about... learn your regs BEFORE you go out fishing, and learn how to handle fish properly if releasing - that means no fingers in the gills, no arching the neck back, etc..
even if you did put that fish back in the water, i doubt it'd survive to spawning... they are a tough fish for sure, but sticking your fingers in its gills is like someone shoving their hand inside your lungs and picking you up...

Sounds like some "jumping to conclusions" going on as far as whether this fish was kept. And something tells me most Salmon/Steelhead guys don't particularly reciprocate in their care for bass.

LMAO!!! Guys you are funny! For one I did not keep the fish for the reason it had an adopus fin and two did not know the regs for that spacific area. And just to let you know I did handle the fish with care you can grab them that way just not grab the gills!! I grab just under them. And the fish was not dead when released. Had plenty of fight splashed me when I set him back. You guys need to understand that just cause someone took a picture with a fish does not mean that they kept it. And with the adapus fin in clear visable veiw in the pic! DUH!! Just to let you know the it was cool to catch one of that size! :D :meme:
P.S. I stealhead fish so just cause i prefer bass fishing does not mean that i do not know the regs.

i have lived and fished for salmon and stealhead in and around oregon and alaska up until a few years ago when i got tired of the people i was running into on the water and on the banks of the rivers. the mentality of the modern day stealhead fisherman is that they seem to know everything and feel they ae superior to every other fisherman who fishes.
i know for a fact as i have witnessed stealheaders catch smallies and get mad and rip the hook out of their mouth and throw them at the water. stealhead are not a man made fish. they have survived thousands of years before he caught that fish and they will continue to survive. when you own the water and the fish you can tell someone what to do. so until then mind you own business.
next time i see a salmon or stealhead fisherman catch a bass i will be sure to have the camera ready and have picture evidence of the poor treatment the bass will most likely recieve and post for all to see. who knows, i may be one or more of the same guys who flamed this guy for the stealhead.
so the hollier than thou attitude is uncalled for.
i was there and we netted the fish in a rubber net and kept it in the water until the camera was ready took one quick pic and set him back in the water and waved goodbye.:twocents:

Hey, guys I know that you are trying to prove a point, but like i said the fish is fine. If you want to keep whining/crying about how the fish is treated do it to your friends or family or who ever cause i do not care. :meme: But hey you should at least say thats a darn beautifull fish there. Any ways please keep the negitive comments to your self cause like i said above it dont really matter to me. I did not post this to make people upset. I posted it cause I CAUGHT IT ON A BASS GRUB, and almost pulled a Mike Iconelli cause i thought it was going to be a new recored small mouth :D But it was a beatifukl stealie instead.

Must suck huh!! Being a steelhead fisherman, getting a few times a year allowed to fish and punch your card(if caught)and watch a Bass Angler catch one by mistake!! We get to fish all year, whenever we want. We also have respect for other species(unlike some). WOW!! It's nice to be a Bass fisherman. No offense, but I know for a fact he didn't keep it and handled it with care. If there wAsn't all the stupid rules and regs with the salmon and steelhead in the NW I might fish for them. Instead, I fish for something that is accually exciting. How much fun can you possibly have throwing a line in the water and waIt for hours and cross your fingers in hopes to catch a salmon. Just because your rules suck, don't vent on us Bass fisherman who actually enjoy our sport.

:yeahthat:If you look at the eyes of the fish, you will know it's quite alive. More jumping to conclusions before the story has completely unfolded. Nice catch on a grub. Several years ago I was walleye fishing in the Columbia dragging a worm harness. Hooked and landed about a 15 pound salmon. Sadly, the big river was closed for salmon. That's some of the fun never knowing what you might hook!

I too thought from your words and less than perfect handling of the fish that you might have kept it. Lots of us fish for both Bass and Steelhead, but know not to grip a native Steelie like that. Simple mistake. Nice catch!

To get back to the point that we were fishing for bass that day, Dave and I did catch one bass, but after seeing Ryans boat catch whats the point. Of course the big fish that someone caught and released was nice too. I just like that he caught the steele on a soft plastic bait.

If it had been a Coho salmon, you could have kept it if fishing above Willy Falls. I fish with spinners mostly. Just cradle the fish next time, and its all good. I really like to hear reports of the steelhead being caught on the upper Willy. I got this nice chromer across from the Mo'
Using eggs above the falls will get to many unwanted fish.

During the fall and early spring when there is still a bunch of steelhead in the Snake, we'd catch them on texas rigged 3 1/2 inch tubes and bubblegum worms. Its definitely a neat surprise. I even caught a nice 19 inch rainbow while flipping at docks this year using a 4 1/2 inch ribbed grub on a split shot rig. It doesn't do any good to lip them though. Them teeth can be sharp!
