I am hoping with the rains coming this week we will get to mix a little more river fishing in since the last two months I have been bobber fishing. This year was the year we got to fish with good numbers of fish and few people around because all everyone was talking about was how there were no fish this year. I saw days this year with only a couple rigs at 5th street or marinas on other rivers close to empty. Most of this fall I found myself saying where is everyone. It seemed like this year on a lot of rivers the fish held in different sections than normal years. Like fish not holding much in the bays or some normal parts of tidewater, but if you moved around some, you could find large schools of fish with very few people around.
Fishing this year was good, about 1/4 of our days we got into ten or more fish. My best day this year we hooked 31 with bobbers having 60+ bites. This day we never landed one under 20 pounds. We had a number of days with 30 or more chances. Another cool thing about this year was with the one wild fish limit, there was a suprising number of hatchery fish around.

We had a big number of 1 salt jacks and lots of these 2 salt small clipped males (photo above) in the 8-15 pound range as bonus fish. Seems like the 3 salts did really good too so I think big things are coming our way the next few years.

We did lots of catch and release this year with the 1 wild fish limit, letting lots of hens go to try for limits of better eating bucks or some days we released fish just to get to keep fishing all day.

But some days playing the catch and release game would come back to bite us with someone being left with an open hand at the end of the day

The above day the guy on the right was lucky to get a small one the last hour for his one after letting lots of bigger fish go.
