Last summer I made the decision to sell my sled and try booking trips with guides. I thought it would be a great way to learn new water and techniques and take a break from boat ownership and the expenses that they demand. Since that time I have managed to book only 1 trip. The problem I seem to be having is most guides want to book the whole boat, not just one seat. I do understand while they want to do this and do not blame them. My delima is many of my friends are not able to afford the cost or there is always difficulty in arrranging to get everyone to commit to a date. So I want to thrown this out there to you ifishers, would any of you be interested in forming a network of individuals so we would be able to contact each other and fill a boat and go fishing. I have a trip booked with a guide for Nov. 21, but I need to fill boat . Any interest in this idea? Thanks Rodtip

November 21st - how many seats, where, and cost per seat.
This sounds like a great idea. Unfortunately, I am still in the boat ownership thing so my wife would kill me if I started doing alot of guide trips. I have thought at times about doing the same thing and selling my boat. I would be interested in doing a few guide trips a year away from my normal north coast, big C routine. Have always always wanted to fish some of the Washington rivers for steelhead.

It is funny you bring this up, because I did the same thing this last summer. Thought long and hard about it, but was just not using the boat enought to justify ownership. I took a couple of trips on charter boats this summer, which is way different than a private boat, but a lot simpler and pretty cheap.
A network of folks, or perhaps a "sticky" thread would be appropriate. A "Singles" club sort of for lonely fishermen.
Perhaps dropping a note to a moderator would help spring an idea?

I being a single fisherman have never had trouble booking one seat. I have been the only client in the boat a couple times.
I think most all guides have an email list of singles they can email when this situation comes up. I do not know that for sure but I do know of one ifish guide that does this.

Just try.
I know I book 1 or 2 at the same rate. Some charge more for a solo book but I figure someone else will call & if not I stilll want to go so BOOK IT DANO !

I like your idea about getting a network going, I think anything to promote our sport & getting OUT THERE is the key.
When your on your death bed you willl ALWAYS wonder what SHE would have been llike & how big that last one that got away was.

This is a great idea. I would probably join 2 or 3 such trips a year. How about a "sticky" thread here?
To make the concept work, each proposed trip would need to provide basic info such as date of trip, name of guide, seats available, cost per seat, general fishing location and target species(chinook, steelhead, etc.), meeting place/ time and deadline for signing up. Also, guides who accept these bookings need to understand the organizer of the trip is making a best faith effort to fill the trip and shouldn't be financially responsible for "no shows".

So the guide is supposed to take the loss for the "no shows"??? That doesn't seem right at all. How about a full deposit requirement so that the "no shows" are the ones held responsible???

The guides will run their business as they see fit. Most, if not all, would require a deposit unless they know the person booking the trip. When I book with other friends I tell them to make their own arrangements with the guide as to the deposit.
FWIW, I know Bob Barthlow has a couple open slots next weekend up at the Klickitat for silvers. I'd imagine it's okay to add that to this thread as he's an iFish guide. It's a good trip.

Papa hog is right on here, especially if you are flexible. You also might want to consider getting on several guides list like DJ pionted out.
However, beware. there are literally hundreds of guides here in Oregon and there is a big difference between the good and the "not so good". Guys like DJ, Wayne Priddy, The Greek, and from what I hear J. Bowles is a good one too. would be on the top of my list. On the other side there are some guys that may have spent a summer guiding in Alaska and think they have it figured out. I have been on a few of those:whistle:. :twocents:

How do I get on the single seat list? Or is the a dead issue? I do think it's a great idea though.
I'll go!

I'm relocating to the Portland/Vancouver area by spring. Once I'm settled out there, I will be extremely interested.
I'm retired and could go most any time and would like to fish frequently within approx 120 miles of home.

This is a great idea. It's too bad there wasn't a calendar on here were you could put your name down in the dates you would be available to go on a trip. Then everyone could take a look and everyone could sort of plan a trip every now and then.

What you need is event management software. Would be great if Ifish could have something like this here.

Fish Hawk Adventures sez what is right, single bookings should be available. The industry of guiding and other hospitality needs are slow and all bookings are appreciated.
