Fellow I-fishers I'm looking for some good proven rubber skirted jigs to start trying for 2010 and the end of 2009.Various lead head styles I.E. round ball?Does the type of hook that the jig is built with make a difference? Big name brands or new companies starting out are all welcome here for trying out if they catch fish. What type of rubber skirted jigs do you guys fish with?Best colors????I see all differient brands to choose from on the internet and in bass pro & from tackle wharehouse.Thanks.P.S. if you post picks it would be awesome.:D

Depending on the size:
In a football jig, Bass Patrol makes an excellent football jig up to 1-1/2 oz.
I like the jigs by Sweetwater in an Arkie style head. Also Weapon makes a nice jig too. Weapon I believe is owned by Iovino Lures.
I know there are many others to try also!!

I have had a lot of sucess with the booya jigs with flat shaped lead head and weedless mohawk with the eyes on the tips they look sort of like a hamer head shark. I think the fish think they are crayfish. I was killing them on the willy and at lapage in the lumbo- motor oil green , brown and orange rust. They are cheap enough to buy lots of them and risk bouncing them on the bottem where the fattys swim. I think the flat shape of the lead and the weed less tufft help keep the hook tip from getting fowled on the bottem, a nice break from freakin about looseing a 7 $ crank bait.

Hand Tied and Custom Made jigs by Todd Iwamoto. NO rubber skirt holder, this is hand tied stuff. No cheap hooks, gammy hooks and painted heads. Custom order any pattern you want. Much cheaper than Booya, and others. Plus you can get football and arkie flippin heads. Silicone skirts. Best jigs from a great guy. If you want more info PM me. they are in between 2-3 bucks.

I like Tualitin River Tackle jigs. They are hand tied and are the best smallie jigs and large mouth jigs I have ever used. If you buy 20 they are $3.50 per jig and well worth it. I have not seen a better skirt than his smallmouth jigs as they are the jigs that win many of the local tournaments. He uses Owner hooks which makes them even better! JMTC

I would second the Tualatin River Tackle jigs. They are made for PNW waters and the Columbia River smallies and local LMBs suck them down like starving prisoners. Great action and hooking ability and the craftsmanship is second to none. You will marvel at their filthiness.

You can google "tualitinrivertackle" or call maker Todd Martinez @ 503-502-3739. He lives in Vernonia and can ship them. They are filthy jigs, far better than any store bought jig and they have the easiest hook set of any jig I have fished...just a nice easy sweep and fish on! His football smallie jigs cant be beat.

Superfluke you will really appreciate Todd's jigs when you use them at a certain Oregon LMB lake that you know and love. The fish will suck them down on that particular body of water. First hand experience doesn't lie!

Yes indeed, on that paticular lake his jigs are tried and true. In fact I would not be surprised if he has made jigs especially for that lake (of which we can not mention).

Seriously, We have been fishing with Todd's (Tualitin River Tackle) for the past two years. We have won five tournaments and two big fish awards. They are specialized for the Northwest fisheries and designed for specific bodies of water. Call Todd he not only builds the best jigs, he also is a wealth of info. plus he's a cool guy!!!

Well I called Todd today and we talked fishing and Jigs.He helped me out alot.We talked about jigs having a good feel in the fishes mouth, proper color combinations ,proper lead head and standup presentation of the jig , the weight of the jig.I ordered 6 and he is trying to locate some silicone that has a certain color for a certain jig I would like him to make for me.He said when they bite his jigs the line just jumps.I can't wait to try them next year.I miss feeling a bite already. My favorite bite is that of a toad sucking it in on the fall.I had this experience all day long on Lake Champlain!Awesome:D P.S. thanks for the help fellow I-Fishers

Yeah, these jigs are really good smallie baits, we fished a tourny in The Dalles and caught 19 lbs bag on the Grip jigs! Todd made us up a special color for that tourney.
Pre-spawn, post spawn, summer, and fall is when they really shine!
