I just bought a Deer Creek TFO spey rod 5/6 weight. What a great rod. I put a 400 grain AFO line on it and it is great. I think the 450 would load it just a bit better, I like to feel the rod load.
Just thought I'd share as this isn't the most expensive rod but it is a great performer, IMHO....
Fished it on the big D like mad and caught a BIG steelhead on it, what fun. Nice and light too.

Just got a Deer Creek 13' 7/8, will be loading it with a Airflo Compacg Skagit 510 gr w/150 gr. tips - hope to put some Chrome on it in the near future...my second Deer Creek, also have a 11' 9 wt. switch Iuse for coastal salmon from my boat.
think the Deer Creek line is about as good a rod as you can get for the money..

surfnfish-
have you cast that setup yet? I have the same rod and looking at that exact line but can't decide if I want to go 510 or 540. looking for some feedback.
thanks!

not yet, picking up the 510 gr head today from Rich at Creekside in Salem...
Here's a link you might want to read where the rod was put thru it's paces and the 510 gr. was given high marks. I also spent a fair amount of time prowling around speypages, super informative spey forum, where the 510 was head of choice there as well..
