Have only fished the D on multi-day float trips, and would like to drive my 4x4 in, set-up camp, and fish for a few days with my new spey rod (Deer Creek 13' 7/8).

So never having approached the D by truck/foot, would appreciate any recommendations...

thanks!!

Try from Harpam down to Max Canyon. Good camp spots below Pine Tree down to Max Canyon. Lots of good water for spey. Try just above box car.... Good luck.

Drive slow (tire issue) and be prepared for "combat spey fishing". Going during the week will help a little.

Drove up to Harpham Flat awhile ago. I saw three fish on and about 40 fishermen/women. One young lady had her hands full with about a 10# steelie in heavy water. She was doing a great job but wasn't sure who was tiring the fastest. Lots of fish in the river all the way from Warm Springs to the mouth. Pressure has been moderate below Sherars as people are moving up river. tight lines

Great water at Beavertail campground, only one with a potable water source too (I think), plus it is in one of the most beautiful spots in the canyon.
