I will be going to Olallie Lake from Oct 8th-11th. I will be using a pontoon and my friends will be using a canoe. I am wondering how much weight I need to use to anchor my 8' pontoon? Also curious what flies to use this time of year. I have heard using spruce flies and wooly buggers are productive. Any suggestions on flies and anchor weight will be appreciated.

Thank You

Derrick

My pontoon has an 8lb anchor I think. The wind may swing you around a bit. If you have fins you can also use a small pontoon like you would a float tube and troll and cast. Sometimes a dry like an adams slowly retrieved just under the surface works for me if the fish seem active.

Just did it last weekend. Minimal weight is fine. Fins worked fine in heavy wind with some tacking. Fish the down wind side no matter what. Also, find the area where the drop is. I was amazed when the fish we caught we 50 yards off the bank. West side of Peninsula and North side beyond Peninsula. Even had some in the cove to the East. We caught some with buggers and small droppers. Plenty of 8-10s and one up to 14 inches. Wind was a killer though Saturday night and scared off a bunch of campers. If you are camping pick a site protected by the wind if there is some instead of the most beautiful site right by the water. Wind and rain change the day on land quite a bit.

Thanks for the replies and pointers. Looks like it will be cold out there also. Oh well should still be fun. I will post again when I get back with an update.
