Whats the real difference. I have only tied wiht unwaxed. Am i missing anything? I am tying on hooks 4-4/0 and mostly yarn and hair. What should i be using? Right now for what i am tying i am using UTC 210 denier thread. It says its lightly waxed. I need all the input i can get!

If you're satisfied with the thread you're currently using then don't sweat it. Or buy a spool of waxed thread and compare the two.
You're tying large flies with materials that don't benefit from waxed thread.
The only time I use waxed is when tying small trout flies and want the stickiness to help hold small pieces of dubbing to the thread. Even then I apply additional wax for more stickiness.

It has been said that it strengthens the thread. At least that is what I have read. I have always used waxed. Like said before it helps if you are dubbing.:twocents::twocents:

Wow. All the years I've been tying and I never realized any advantage for waxed thread accept that, in some cases, it is a little less likely to cut on your bobbin. But the dubbing coment....that makes sence.
You all learned me sonthin... Now I'll have to give that a try.
