Tica Veteran G211 (10/11). It is a little bigger than you wanted but it's a great reel. Go see Don over at River City. He will hook you up.

No worries. Sierra Trading Post has the old Lamson Radius for $150 right now, sounds like that might be more of what you're looking for if it's in your price range.

Hard to beat a Lamson. Most the other quality reels, obviously, are going to set you back more $$ than that Radius, obviously. If you're not in a rush, keep an eye on the big auction site. There's a Tibor I'm watching there now, in fact. (Now don't go bidding against me! :) )
And, in all honestly, the Pfluger Medalist is a very tough/durable reel. The drags are a bit questionable, but many, many tarpon have been landed using them. A lot of guys will epoxy a washer counter to the reel handle for balance. They are heavy, clunky, and I've "mothballed" mine now for many years, but they do take an abuse and keep on clicking....well, sort of clicking.

agreed on the medalists...on mine, the drags don't work all that well, but that's why they have rim control...I've had mine in the salt, forgotten to rinse them off, and they still sound and act as if they are somewhat new... they are one reel that you'll be hardpressed to break.
that said, I really like my Lamson and my Ross reels...

You should check out Sage's line of reels. They start at 99.00, they are a little smaller than you are looking for but worth checking out.

Rim control would make all the difference. Mine is a pre-RC model. Yep, old.
I own and use to sell some Redington reels. Very fair prices. Albright is a company by the same owner and now only sells online...no dealers. I think you'll find the prices to your liking for a new reel. I've only held the smaller trout versions, so can't say much for the big boys. Do a search for Albright Tackle and see what you find.

I just bought a new "Fish-Field" from Don at River City. I paid $90.00. I've never heard of this brand before but it is one of the smoothest reels I have ever used. The drag on it is amazing. Came with a lifetime warranty.
I've only had it out a couple times so I can't really say how it will hold up after some use/abuse. So far so good.

There are NEW Hardy Uniqua reels all over right now for less than $150. Ebay and other stores have them on closeout. I just bought a #5 Salmon/Spey(4+inch model) for 140$ shipped. Spare spools are around $60
The reels are $350 retail.

I have owned reels made by phluger, S.A., Ross, Lamson, orvis, Tica and Terry Haden. A ross reel, a little more than you want to spend, IS A GREAT REEL! It will last for years. I have a cimmoron I'v been fishing for 12 years...without problems. I love my lamson velocity though. Tough, great drag, smooth. Bar stock reels will always be worth the extra money!

Okuma SLV. They make a 10/11. It holds a 9/10 spey line and 300 yards or 30# backing with a lot of room left ofer. Very good reel; right around $50.00.
I am not sure there's a better reel at twice the price.

In the past month, from Sierra Trading Post, I've bought:
A Lamson Velocity 4 for $159 (new, $350), now on a 13' 7'8 spey rod.
A Orvis Mach V1 for $149 (new, $259), now on a 11' 9 wt. switch rod.
Sierra Trading Post has killer deals on all kinds of outdoor clothes and gear. if you register with their site as a customer, they will periodically send you discount coupons for an extra 20% to 25% off the already discounted prices, which I used for the above mentioned reels.
I also picked up a dozen Orvis Flouro leaders for less then $2 apiece.
Everything they sell is basically last years models, brand new, and they have an excellent return program.
Over the years, they have become my 'first look" for gear on sale, Cabelas bargain cave a distant second. I have bought Simms wading jackets, waders, rain gear - all quality gear at lowest possible prices..

Hard to beat a Ross CLA for the $$$.
Stay away from the Orvis Mach. There is a reason they are being sold so cheaply and had such a short product life. PM me if you want to hear my Mach failure stories.
