Guys i have been on ebay and craigslist and not much there. i am looking for a used vise. Nothing fancy as i am just going to be tying Sockeye flies. I just dont have a lot of money to throw at one. I have a 20.00 Cabelas that works but its a peice of junk to say the least. I have kept an eye on the for sale area here on the forum and nothing. Some one must have a decent vise out there they are selling because they upgraded or dont tie any more. Any ideas?

I was just up at the Fred Meyers in Sandy and they had 2 inexpensive vises. One was a lever close vise and the other was a knob close vise $15 and $17 respectively if I remember correctly. If you haven't found one already I hope this helps.

Buy a DanVise. $82, sometimes cheaper. It comes with a clamp-on base, if you want a free standing weighted vise, they sell them on ebay for $20.

The DanVise is a bulletproof, full rotary vise that has won rave reviews from many fly tying circles as the best budget vise on the market - period!!

I've tied over 200 flies on mine since I bought it last winter. During my two fly tying classes, I was able to try different vises, including $500 top of the line Renzetti's...I didn't like any of them better them my DanVise.

And once you start tying flies on a decent vise, it is so much easier that ...you'll just keep tying flies for the other fish as well.

Are you looking for a rotary, or a old Thompson? You should be able to get one under $50 easy. Just google fly tying vise and many should come up. :twocents::twocents:

I am not looking for a rotary at all. Just one that will hold the hook firmly every time.

Lots of good vises out there. My first was a Thompson, But i've owned a Regal for 8 years and I wouldn't use any other vise.

Other than vise grips, the Regal "Inex" is about as versatile as it gets.
